So I emailed Amman to ask about my paperwork regarding the K3 or Cr-1 issue... so I'll sum it up quickly for those who didn't know:

I applied K3 but my I-130 stuff got to the embassy months before the I-129F, and his interview was scheduled on the I-130. I asked for them to switch us to Cr-1 but never received a response regarding it- -basically I asked and they emailed back "we received an email from your husband today as well, his interview has been changed to April 24, 2007." which in NO WAY answered Cr-1/K3 questions LOLOLOL! And to him they emailed on that day "You will be interviewing K3 I-130." which made no sense to me.

His checklist was for the I-130/Cr-1 visa.

So I emailed again and asked if he is K3 or Cr-1 and should he use the I-134/DS 156, 156K, 157 for K3 -OR- the I-864 for the I-130/Cr-1. They finally got back to me and said bring the I-130 paperwork, he is not interviewing on the I-129F.

So. I am assuming this means he's Cr-1 and not K3? Is that right?

If he is Cr-1 will he have to file an AOS after he gets here? Or am I out having to pay for that ridiculous form fee?

Also? Although I have asked FOUR SEPERATE TIMES, HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA, they STILL have not answered if his interview is at 8am. One time? When I emailed that question all by itself? They responded with: "I remember you! Hope you're studies are going well!" and that's it!!! LOLOLOL! Trying to get an answer sometimes... So anyway, he's just going to show up at 8am, because what else can one do? Maybe I should tell him to show up at 7am. I am paranoid like that LOL!

If he comes on the CR1, you will not apply for AOS. But.........you do get to file for Lifting of Conditions 1 year 9 months after his arrival. He will come on a 2 year visa, and after the LOC he will get 10 year card. So while you don't have to pay the AOS fee, you do have your own version in the LOC.

Your lucky, several of our members will be going thru LOC soon, so you can get an idea what that is all about. Oh, the 8am interviews start lining up at 7am.

The CR 1 is the better visa to come on! It is easier once you get here to get your SS# and for them to start work and to get a drivers liscense. there is only about 2 weeks of a waiting period for the SS# and green card. You will still have to do the lifting on conditons before the 2 years end. Which is another process but easier I think. I would also reccomend that he get an international drivers liscense there in jordan if he is able to before he comes. this will enable him to drive and get insurance here while he is learning to drive. Gives you time to learn how to drive in America. Also make sure he has an up to date Jordanian passport before he comes with time on it. That way no problems in traveling and having it expire. Saying CR1 is the 'better visa', is an opinion statement. Speaking for my husband, he thinks the K3 was the better visa for him. We know several of his friends that have crossed over and some are cr1 and some k3, so we know both sides of the fence. It's not a 'one size fits all' decision.

True.... but just about everyone who comes through successfully thinks their type of visa was the best way to go. (Actually this is probably why they chose that path in the first place -- because it was best for them.)

And also, quite a few folks who hit a snag look back and consider that maybe they should've gone another way.

My husband files taxes with me and has an ITIN. As far as I can tell, and ITIN allows him to work in the US the second he sets foot-- because it is a legal tax ID issued by the IRS and that number stays with you forever-- even after you get a SS#.

The international Driver's license is a good idea!

Actually, his CR-1 visa (once activated at the port of entry) will give him full rights to work in the U.S.

But most employers are not familiar with every nuance of the law, and many may be nervous about hiring someone without a SS card and a green card. (You might be able to convince them if you show them documentation from the government about work eligibility on a CR-1, but it's not for sure.)

Might as well expect at LEAST a 2-week wait (not working) after arrival until the SS card and green card come, and maybe up to a month.

But hey -- as you know -- it's a big adjustment coming to another country. My husband used this short period (waiting for the cards) to acclimate, get used to finding his way around, learn how to drive in America, etc. He'd never seen a job application form before, or a driver's handbook for a driver's license, or used a gas pump or a car wash. So many things are different here. It was good for him to have these few weeks after arriving just to get his feet on the ground.

Yeah, Mine insisted he would work "right away" but i tol,d him to take a week before he even starts to look for something! But the ITIN is a SS# type ID, he has this so it doesn't matter about teh wait for the SS# and employers

I think he'll need more time to acclimate than he thinks he needs! LOL! But he'll be surprised.. or maybe I'll be surprised and he's right But I am thinking I'm still right

I think the ITIN can only be used for tax purpose and not for work authorization. As soon as your husband gets here he can apply for a SSN anyways and comes in no time along with the green card. Definitely have him get an International Drivers license esp. if he has to drive everywhere.

Hi Julianna. I am praying all goes well in Amman next week and your husband passes the interview with flying colors! (visa colors) lol! Anyway, the CR1 to me would be much less expensive for you. Faisal came on the K3 and we spent 165 for his work permit, then we will have to pay 395.00 for AOS. Lots of spending money! I will see u in the chatroom next week!

Well I for one wouldn't care what visa it was as long as he gets here and safely lolololol. I know though its nice to have them come and not have the AOS worries immediately.

I totally agree! Although yeah, not having to do AOS or do work permit stuff is pretty nice.
