Hi all - sorry if this question has been repeated, but I couldn't find anything on it. My fiance and I are using the K1, and my interview is coming up on April 10th. My question is this: I did my undergraduate degree in the US and also worked there for a few years on an H1B. Will I need to get a new SSN when I arrive in April, or will my old one be sufficient? My SSN is stamped on the front with the following: "not valid for work unless authorized by INS." I'm planning on heading to the local SSN office and asking them to issue a new one without this stamp (although using the same number). Other than that, I was hoping that I wouldn't have to deal with ordering a brand new SSN. Any ideas?

If you had a SSN from when you did your Undergraduate degree it is still valid. SSNs never expire, they are assigned to a person for life. SSA wont issue a person 2 or more numbers.

Just visit SSA office to update your immigration status.

You are not eligible for a SS card without that legend until you are a Permanent Resident (completion of your AOS/I-485 aka Green Card).
