Many of you who read my post in the past may have known that my wife doesn't understand English. She has never had an education. I give her money every month so she can goto school to learn English. She just learned how to read Khmer, her native language, a few months ago. Her life was tough when she was younger growing up with no parents, and life of improvishment. She's very sweet, and fair.

She was a victim of human trafficking. A restaurant owner in Thailand kept her as a slave worker inside his restaurant. He kept her passport so she cannot return to Cambodia. My friend found out what was happening, and went to save her before any thing worse could happen. She's only one year younger than I. Before I met her, her fingernails was worn and torn. I married her because she remains fair to everybody despite her adversity.

Now, I want to let her know what's involved in packet 3. She lives in Cambodia, so, if the packet was mailed to her, I would need to tell her what needs to be filled out and what has to be done. Please, inform me. Thank you! star_smile.gif

Is there anyone in her home town that you can get in touch with? Someone that knows both languages? Sorry that I can't offer more advise but I believe that would be the best way to go. I'm not sure if Italkbb works for Cambodia but it's a very reasonable phone service that you could use to communcate to someone what needs to be done.

It's sad, very sad that human trafficking has ever occurred in human history and pathetic to all ends that it's happening today!!! I treasure stories such as yours, you have found true love, don't ever lose or leave her!!!

Sorry that I cannot be of anymore help.

I'm waiting for the Packet 3 for my fiance. This is for the K1 but the K3 should be the same I would assume (only guessing). Once my fiance receives it I'll give as much info as possible. It should be the same or very similar to all other consulate Packet 3.

Inside packet 3 there are: (at least in mine, perhaps different consulates give different ones?)
1. Checklist of items needed to be presented during the interview, which you will have to send back to the Embassy along with a filled DS-230 form.
2. DS 230 form
3. DS 156 form
4. Medical Exam Instructions
5. Other fees instructions.

Mine was sent to my husband's address in the US ,which is a bit weird, since we didn't inquire such. Looking at your case, this maybe the best option for you to receive the packet, instead being sent to your wife. You might want to ask the Consulate if this can be done.
All the best to both of you.

If you really want to do this girl a favor, and make the whole transition very easy on her since she's already had a difficult life, then I would highly recommend that you hire an attorney in Cambodia to work on her behalf. You may even be able to hire an attorney in Thailand since they handled many of the K-1 visas for Cambodians. My fiance, who has her bachelor's degree actually just started teaching herself English two years ago and is still learning. I hired an attorney in Bangkok to make it easy on her and she very much appreciates it. They can also do all the translations that will be necessary. Hell, most Americans can hardly fill out the papers properly since they are confusing to us. Spend the money and hire an attorney to make the girls life easy. You can get one to complete the whole process for around $1600.00. Small price to pay for a girl that's gone through hell in her life. If you can't do that, let me know through a private message and I might be able to introduce her to two women I know in Phnom Penh. If she's in Phnom Penh tell her to go to the Embassy there and they should be able to steer her in the right direction. Good luck.

It sucks that all this revolves around money, it makes me sick. But we gotta do what we gotta do..... smile.gif

You know each consulate has slightly different requirements for the needed paperwork, and the processes for getting medical appointment are also different.
But one always need to prepare forms DS 230 and DS 156, 4 passport size pictures ( 2x2 inches, head size 2- 2,75 inches, background has to be white or off-white and plain, no glares on the glasses). As a benefactor you should prepare the I-134 affidavite of support form.
She would need the police clearence records from the all countries where she lived for more than 6 months since she was 16 (check here http://travel.state.gov/visa/reciprocity/index.htm ).
But somebody wil need to help your wife with the medical instructions and instructions for getting an appointment.
Good luck!
