Hello-
Does anyone know where to get a drivers handbook in French or Arabic or if it's even possible to get one in California? The thing I don't understand is that you can take the test in just about any language you could imagine however they only have the handbooks to study from in English, Spanish, Chinese, and a couple of other languages. I was very surprised that they don't have it in French.

If anyone knows of any bootleg driver's handbooks please do let me know. And let's keep this on the DL.

Thanks,
Sarah

Catering to the state's diverse culture, the California Drivers Handbook is available in seven languages:
  • English
  • Spanish
  • Chinese
  • Korean
  • Vietnamese
  • Tagalog
  • Russian

That's what I'm saying... those languages are of no use to me.

I think there should at least be French!

Sorry it doesn't hell ya, I guess they did their best... am not even sure I'm (personnaly) 100% in love with the idea that they're available in other languages to begin with...
  • Does France provide an English drivers handbook? (for example)
  • I believe in Germany, I'll have to learn to read German.
  • It wouldn't surprise me if most of the 6 countries listed don't provide English hanbooks... no0pb.gif
Sorry..just a Rant.. rose.gif

p.s.
And yes, I actually do understand it would help to have it in a native language...so don't shoot me whistling.gif . The 'good' news is, I believe the voting ballots are in 17 different languages in California...unsure.gif

Ummm ok... well my husband and I speak French to eachother and he has been here for 8 months and speaks English now, however I do believe that taking a DMV written test might be confusing to him and that it might be easier in French at this point.

Just so ya know I lived in France and I learned French so I'm all for learning the language of the country you're in.

Thanks.

I am not looking for a debate about what language everyone needs to learn I'm just wondering if anyone knows of a source to get a handbook in French.

Thanks!

I hate when people say "sorry" when they are anything but sorry.

I didn't and don't apologize for my opinion(s)... But I'll just say - I think my tone was a bit kranky sounding..

What other languages is the written or audio test available in?

Besides English, the basic Class C written driver license exam is also available in the following languages:
Amharic, Arabic, Armenian, Cambodian, Chinese, Croatian, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Hmong, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Laotian, Persian/Farsi, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Romanian, Russian, Samoan, Spanish, Tagalog/Filipino, Thai, Tongan, Turkish, and Vietnamese.

So looks like your husband can take the written test in French or Arabic, Sarah, even if the manual isn't translated.

Sarah, just translate one in your "free" time and then e-bay them tongue.gif
Jenn!
I asked if they had manuals translated into Italian or Arabic at the Mass DMV. The lady asked why we just didn't get a manual then from Italy or an Arabic speaking country. Ummm.... wacko.gif

well I guess it is time for him to take a ESL Class.

So, sign him up at a local jr. college and he can learn English

Yes, he can take the test in Arabic or French which is fine. I just wondered if anyone knew of any handbooks in either of those languages is all.

Thanks for the help!

Yeah, sorry I didn't read your first post properly, hence the moronic response.
