Hi All

I joined VJ a few weeks ago and thought it's about time I make an introduction post as my American fiance & I are about to start our own journey. I have sifted through the various threads and have found it very, very useful. In fact, if it wasn't for this site we probably never would have discovered DCF (though I did join a few days after it was cancelled!) & all the different options that we have. See, we haven't even "officially" started our journey and this site has already helped us in someway.

Now, our background story: We met in April 2003 at University. He was an international student from Missouri & I was a local Adelaide girl on the final year of my Masters course. Fast forward to November 2006 & he has finished his Honours Degree & the question of "What now?" came up. Fast forward a bit more to January 2007 & he proposed while we were on holidays in Melbourne. He left to go back home to Missouri (to attend his best friend's wedding & also the fact his student visa was close to expiring) on March 2nd but he's got a return ticket. Depending on whether he is granted a PhD scholarship from his former University here in Adelaide, he may or may not have to come back on a 3-month tourist visa (which will see him here till the end of August. After that, who knows.

So I guess this is where our journey officially begins - trying to work out how we can spend the rest of our lives together with as little time as possible doing it apart. Our tentative plans is as soon as he finds out whether he'll be doing his PhD in Adelaide or Missouri (which we're hoping will happen by mid-April), we'll take the steps necessary to get things started. We were excited about the DCF option but realised that since he was a student, we can't deem him a resident of Adelaide/Australia for at least 6 months.

So, anyway "Hi!" smile.gif

Thanks, everyone!

Well, I found out from my fiance this morning that it is looking very likely that he will take the PhD Scholarship he has been offered by Missouri University. So I guess I'll be moving to the US!

I look forward to reading up a bit more around the forum and learning all about the process.
