Hello! My name is Margaret and my boyfriends name is Marc! I am a student at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Marc is a graduate of Manchester Metro Uni currently living in Staffordshire.

Marc and I met when he studied abroad at my university, UNCG, in 2004. We have been dating for nearly 2&1/2 years nows! Last year I studied abroad and lived in the UK to be with him.

We are very much in love and are planning to marry hopefully in 2010...(10-10-2010)

Unfortunately we have to spent considerable apart and only get to see each other for about 2 weeks every 2 months or so. We are currently apart and will not see eachother again untill May, if then. crying.gif

I think it is a testimate to our love that we are able to keep such a loving a committed relationship while apart.

Marc has graduated from MMU and I have one more year left at UNCG. I am hoping to move to the UK when I graduate for about two years. We are hoping to be able to live together for those two years and then get married! But, we have no idea how to do this. It seems as if the only way we will ever be able to be together is to get married! We need help!

Welcome to VJ.

As far as the 'marrying' - that's the way with most of us here. There aren't boyfriend/girlfriend visas in either country!

I don't think you can just move to the UK and live there, anymore than you can here. You'll need a student visa or work visa.

You're doing pretty well to see each other every two months. I can't recall anyone else with a loved one in the UK who ever saw their SO that frequently on a continual, long-running basis.

Welcome to VJ.

You should read the "Guides" and "FAQ's" sections here on VJ to give you some idea of what processes are available to you. Also, reading posts from other VJ members under the different Forums is also very informative.

Good luck with whatever route you decide to take.

Thank you guys for the help you've given so far!

I guess I should either start looking for graduate schools in the UK or start planning a wedding!

Welcome!

I understand how difficult it all is.

I have been here now about 3 months and next month will have been together in total for 5 years. Up untill December when we got married, I would visit every 3 months to 4 months for a month to 3 months. Its a pain to live like that, you have no money...and avoid it if you can!

I hope you find a visa solution!
