I sent out my police record check last week and was just wanting to confirm something.

As I am not in London, or ever lived in London, I was to send it to my local Police HQ, which is in Cumbira:

http://www.cumbria.police.uk/

That was the right thing to do correct?

Do you get a receipt from them at all upon delivery?

no one gets a receipt. It takes roughly 40 days.

To obtain a Police Certificate in the UK, go to your local police station and request a form called "Subject Access". Send send this with the £10 fee to the Data Protection Officer of the police force for the area you are resident in. This form is then sent by the police to Scotland Yard and the results are supplied to the individual requesting them within a statutory 40 day time limit. If you're waiting for your certificate try 0207-230-3751 to see where it is.

U.K. police certificates are considered valid for 12 months from the date of issuance.

Actually, I got a receipt from them, stating the day they received it (it is from that day that the 40 day time frame starts), how much I sent them (10 quid) and returning all of my proof of identity documents. It also has a number on that you quote should there be any problems with you not receiving it.

FYI it took at least 2-3 weeks for them to send it out to me.

I got a receipt too, about 3 weeks after I sent the form off. I saw that the envelope came from the Met, and got all excited (well, as excited as it is to be about a police certificate - but during that waiting-for-NOA2 thing, you take yer excitement where you can find it!! laughing.gif ) thinking that my police certificate had come early... but nope, they were just acknowledging that they'd got my form.

Cool, it wasn't just me then. tongue.gif So Tony, it seems that most people get a receipt! You've just got to wait a little longer......
