homesick_american,

Well of course you do, that explains how you’re an expert blink.gif ? Are you seriously trying to tell me that all or almost all the British people you’ve encountered/talked to or associated with complain about how much special treatment Ireland gets? laughing.gif You trying to tell me the people of Briton have nothing better to do than to complain about Ireland? I have to disagree with that assessment; I think the British have more to their life’s than crying like a bunch of old women with a sore arses about big, bad Ireland. smile.gif

I’m not “cranky” I just don’t appreciate being told something you “hear”, if you’re going to say something back it up with some facts. Do some research on it, make your point. Don’t come at me half cocked with something you heard then cry like a baby when I respond. If you had no interest and didn’t care why post to begin with? Your posting alone showed an undeniable interest. If you really wanted to attack me you’d at least try to find something to attack other than pick at my less than perfect skills with English language. That’s just petty and immature. huh.gif

I suppose Irelands financial success had nothing to do with decade’s worth of fanatical reform brought on and maintained by successive governments in the Irish Republic? It also had nothing to do with previous & current US administration helping to bring business into the island of Ireland, which happens to work both ways! It also couldn’t have had nothing to do with the various tax incentives that attract inward investment? There’s also the small issue of not draining the Irish economy of massive amounts of funds in order to maintain various “security” operations and wars around the globe and closer to home. Isn’t neutrality a good thing? I’m not saying for a second Ireland didn’t benefit from the EU, of course it did I’m just saying what is there to complain about? wacko.gif

I don’t believe Ireland got special treatment from the European Union, I believe it got the help it needed and badly needed. Ireland has in the past and will again become a net contributor to the EU; I suppose that’s also special treatment? I believe Poland as does many other Eastern European states need assistance and aid from the European Union in order to build their economies, especially after being occupied in the past. If given the chance, like Ireland I believe these countries will become an asset and a contributor to the European Union. biggrin.gif

What is all this shite about. Ireland does not get special rights. As aidan said i went through the same process. My family are not exactly poor. I didnt leave due to the potatoe famine tongue.gif . My wife and myself left a very good lifestyle back in Ireland.

This argument that ireland does not agree with immigration is a load of shite. In my hometown back in Galway we have over 700 brazilians living in the town. They are well liked and bring alot of color to the town. Does that strike racism. I worked with alot of non eu immigrants and they had no problems. Every town in ireland has a story like this.

It just strikes me that the turkish poster is resentfull for the fact that he/she didnt get the job in ireland. The last time i checked turkey wasnt in the EU and won't be for quite a number of years. Ireland of course got favours from the EU during the 80's but who didnt with any new emerging nation.

The UK poster is just a typical english view of ireland. Get a life. Ireland don't get special favours.

They do; everyone in Europe seems prepared to acknowledge this except the Irish. That's OK, I can understand why they don't...there are massive subsidies to protect.

As for racism in Ireland...I only know what I've heard, and what I've heard doesn't paint a pretty picture. Rest assured Ireland isn't the only country in Europe where racism exists. I knew a Mexican couple here in the UK who were harassed and vandalized out of their home in Manchester because the neighbors thought they were Pakistani.

Every country in the EU has a problem to some degree with racisim. Why have you a problem with Ireland. I would be the first to say that there is alot of corruption in politics in ireland but come on england has its own fair share. All this attacking on ireland is for what reason!!!!

I find it hilarious that you have the nerve to imply that I'm ignorant when your posts paint the picture of someone whose grammar and spelling do nothing for the reputation of Irish education.

Buh-bye.

I'm not attacking Ireland, I'm just not needlessly flattering it. I have to be honest with you; all I've heard about Ireland (aside from the beauty of the rural landscape) has been unflattering.

And yes, you are correct...every country in the EU has racism problems, some more so than others. I've heard of the Irish reputation for racism, but I've witnessed breathtaking racism in the UK and France, and I haven't met a Pole yet who wasn't a racist. (This includes my Polish relatives.) So Ireland's definitely not the exception there!

If I were you, I'd worry a lot more about my own ignorance than someone else's grammar mistakes. You want to blame Aidan's grammar and spelling mistakes on Irish education? Ok. Go for it. Now what's your excuse? wink.gif

Racist, eh? So the Irish are a different race now? I'm white...what are they?

Go ahead and slag off England, I do it all the time. If you had read my posts instead of skimming them (or reading someone else's responses to them and jumping on the bandwagon like a little follower) you would realize that I'm not actually British. I'm American.

It's too bad we don't have minimum educational requirements for family-based immigration.

Mimimum educational requirements are you implying that towards me. For your information buddy i have a degree.

I wont get involved in any slagging games, you play your little game and leave the grownups alone. Look i am sorry if i offended you with my comments.

I find this analysis of Ireland and the EU way off the mark -- yes, Ireland benefited tremendously from membership in the EU. This might be why they voted for ratification of the Nice Treaty in a referendum which allowed EU Accession for Poland and other Eastern European countries -- Ireland has lead the way in EU Enlargement.

Furthermore, Ireland did not place restriction on Polish workers coming to Ireland to seek work. The same could not be said of other EU countries, especially the French.

It’s very interesting you said that “So the Irish are a different race now? I'm white...what are they?”.

I don’t consider myself in any way shape or form a descendant of the Anglo/Norman “white” as you like to call it. Although yes we have a white in skin tone, I don’t consider myself in the standard white ethnic grouping at all. The ancient peoples that originally inhabited Ireland and that still exists in many forms today originated in Gaul, the Celtic peoples. So to answer your stupid question, yes I suppose the Irish are a different race even though we are white. Why do you seem to have an affixation with race and skin tone?

To answer you’re other stupid questions, I wouldn’t try to imply you were ignorant I’d just say if I believed it to be true. I now believe that to be true after witnessing your idiotic responses to perfectly valid and logical questions and answers to you’re questions. Instead of engaging in conversation, you like a child engage in petty attacks on my grammar? You avoid answering questions directed at you and attack us with your insults? Have you at all at any point in time thought before you opened your hole? I’ve a funny feeling you haven’t have you, if you did you’d know you’re wrong and have left it at that.

I find you can only be one of two things, either you’re a troll getting you’re kicks out of talking out you’re arse or you’re a racist. In any case I’ve wasted enough time on you.

Maybe it’s time this thread was locked as it’s gone way off topic and isn’t of any benefit to anyone other than the suspected troll now.
