Just letting everyone know that we received our notification of approval yesterday - which was totally out of the blue ohmy.gif Was prepared to sit back and wait for another couple of months - to say shocked was an understatement.

Any ideas on how long the next processes take?

Jenny, I am so happy for you. I am getting ready to file for my step son. Who was your I-130 for. Also tell me, can they come and visiti during the process???, My fiance came to IS on the fiance visa, and we were married 3 years. He had a massive heart attack and passed away. My biological son was in a car accidendt on the way to help me with my husbands funeral. Now I have my 12 y/o daughter, and my step son in England that I am trying to get here. SO any info would be helpful..

Thanks Holly

Hi Holly - I was so sorry to hear of your bad news - you must have been devastated.

My situation is in reverse of yours (so to speak). My daughter is now a USC as of October 2005 and she filed I-130 for us to become permanent residents and as parents we do not have to wait for a number - we get one automatically as family first preference - so the situation is completely different. We still have to go through the same process via USCIS and NVC then the files are forwarded to our Embassy - this process takes on average up to one year. But for children it is longer - you would have to ask ausiewench as she is more knowlegable than me - or anyone else going through a similar process. You would be better to start another thread - with your specific question.

I wish you the best of luck and hope things improve soon - you have my deepest sympathy.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Jenny,

THanks for the info. I thought since I am a USC, that I can apply to have my step son brought over here since he was 14 when we married. I thought I could apply I-130, and that He would not have to wait for a visa number because he was considered immediate famly through my husband. Also could you travel while waiting ???

We are not advised to visit the USA whilst being processed as it would be highly likely we would be refused at POE. However I believe your son would not have the same problem and would be free to travel - but please don't take my word on this. You would get more useful information if you started another thread as this one is old and anyone going thru your situation would probably not read this.
There is also another website on the Yahoo site with a resident immigration lawyer who would give you acurate advice freely - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/immigration_info/ - just click on messages and post yours - you would need to register first.
