So what is the actual purpose of updating your ssn when becoming a citizen, do they issue you a new ss number?
Thanks tonyt.

You get a new SSN card with the same number on it. And, you will be registered in the database as a citizen. So, when they want to do a check on you such as audits by the IRS, FBI, or whatever they can confirm that you're a citizen with the SSA (Social Security Administration).

Thank you for the information, and good luck with your process..

Yep always a good back up if you ever loose your certificate and this way they can verify you are a USC when you don't have the other for proof. Also jobs will check you out with your SSN, so if you're applying for any government type ones that need a USC, it has to be updated or else they will not hire you (even if you are a USC)...
