Just so you know...... I am from England and got engaged to an American girl from Virginia last August. We kicked off the K1 process in December 2006 and are hoping to have the visa to get married in Hawaii this year. We received our NOA2 very quickly (in early February) and know the electronic copy of the paperwork has been received and they are looking to process the paper copy during March. For personal reasons we would love to be able to marry in June, but realise this is pretty tight. So I am trying to get as much organised before I receive packet 3 from the embassy in London, so I can send the checklist back as soon as I receive it.

I wonder if anyone could share with me the contents of the specific pieces of packet 3 for the UK?

I know that I have to obtain the police certificates, which we call 'subject access' requests here. I have lived in London, Surrey and Hamshire through the years. I have requested and just received the cetificate from the surrey police, but it seems to only state my details relating to the Surrey police records. So now I am thinking that I might to make similar request from the Hampshire and Metropolitan police forces too. Can anyone tell me what the packet 3 from the London embassy says in this area?

Its mainly just more forms to fill out.

You won't need your police certificate untill the interview, but you will need the ones from the different counties. I had to get mine from the Hampshire police also and mine too AGES, the full 40 days!

How far back to police certificates have to go? ie since age 16/18 etc? Thanks!

I thought there was just one for the whole country - doesn't it come from Scotland Yard (this is another one of those times when my head can't wrap around the concept of a country with no state-like political subdivisions)? I suppose this is something I should let my brit fiance figure out - but now I'm curious: he's really only lived in Essex and Suffolk counties - so he needs certs from both?

Well you would think it would but it said on the forms everywhere you've lived...
When sent off, they check the local then it goes to scotland yard.
My certificate came back saying for hampshire...

Best to ask the police if its national or JUST local.

I hadn't checked the gallery before, so thanks for the tip....... all the initial pictures I saw were photos of happy couples.... I did find some scanned documents now, so thanks for that.

Looking at the police certificate I have all ready received from the Surrey Police, it was issued by the National Identification Service, New Scotland Yard'. Then I have two almost-contradictory quotations:
'In reply to your request for information that may be held about you by the Surrey Police on computers.........'
'From the personal details supplied in your request there is no information held about you in the person record category of the Police National Computer'.

I take it the language used will be similar whether requested through Surrey or Hampshire police?

Glad you have the police certificate in hand. To shed some light on the rest of your question, please have a look at my timeline and my posts and.
Using All the advice I obtained on these forums, I feel I saved time by getting my case number from NVC and scheduling a medical. I had more time to wait for the Noa2, so I downloaded all the packet three forms, and my fiancee obtained all the original documents taht may be required at interview.

From the UK you just need the one police check. You apply for it at your local cop shop and get back the national results. You can confirm that yours is the same as everyone else's by looking at the sample photo (it should have a blue bar across the page IIRC) but I have never heard of anyone getting the wrong one from the UK.

ALL police checks go through the Scotland Yard Database regardless of where you applied from in the UK. You apply through your local police force and they send it off for checking where it then goes through the main Met Police database.

One cert is all you need.

I was alos interested what is needed for packet 3. So far..
- I've sent for my police cert
- I have my b-cert, marriage and divorce cert, my vaccination records for the medical, copy of the original petition & passport photos
- Jamal is coming to the UK in 2 weeks with notorized advicate of support, military pay forms, a letter from his commander and his tax info

I'm waiting for P3 but want everything ready to send back the day I receive it. What else do I need??

Once you get your LND2007????????? number from NVC, you can book your medical to save time.

We just received our NOA2, so awaiting the NVC info and then packet info from the London Embassy. We are on a very tight schedule, as our wedding is already set for August, and my fiancee Chris and I are currently in New Zealand, and Chris will not return to the UK until just before his interview date.

Chris lived in the States already for 18 months, but on a J-1 visa. Will he need a police check for that time?

Any other tips on ways to get things done from abroad? We want to make sure that we don't lose any time with filling in the forms and getting signature sent back for submission.

Hi! I have received packet 3 now and can you that it does state that 'every visa applicant aged 16 years and over is required to submit a police certificate from police authorities for their country AND each country where the applicant has resided for at least one year since attaining the age of sixteen'.
