Full Version: What if you won a multi-million Dollar lottery
VisaJourney.com > General Discussion Area > General Polls

Savanphil
I was just wondering, because the MEga-Millions winner did not come forward yet.

I would want to remain anonymous...I don't want to be on the evening news holding one of those Super Huge checks with a cheesy smile on my face.

I would just like my money, privately. No pictures, stories, or appearances on the news.
Happy Bunny
I'd totally remain anon
~Chad~
Definitely remain anon. If not, everyone would have a hand out.
Magenta
Anonymous.
Nessa
I don't think being anonymous is an option, the press would be all over you, but I'd definitely choose that if I played the lottery good.gif
DeadPoolX
I'd prefer remaining anonymous; however, since that's probably not a likely choice (as Nessa said, the media would cover the story), then I probably wouldn't mind too much. I wouldn't want to be the sole focus of attention for too long, but if I was mentioned in a short blurb, it wouldn't bother me.

and after one of us won, we'd move to brazil and buy an army to invade argentina biggrin.gif
Cassie
If the lotteries here are anything like the ones at home, if you want the prize you can't remain anonymous, part of the deal is press coverage.

With that being said, I'd sure as heck would wish it to keep it quiet!
MissStacey
Grab the check, smile for the camera, and run.

My strategy as well.

Retire young and live off the interest after buying a home in major cities all over the world.
KarenCee
Remain anonymous. However, with this country's addiction to living vicariously through the lives of others via the media, there's no way that would happen.
KansasDragon
I'd definitely go public. I'd make the big announcement right here on VJ, as I'm calling the travel agent to arrange my monthly 21 day trips to the Philippines until the Visa process is completed.
A.J.
Anonymous. Heck, knowing me, even my family wouldn't be able to tell I'm suddenly a multi-millionaire. They'd probably think I got a big bonus at work or something tongue.gif
BelwinMills
I never play so I would never have a problem.

Winning a multi-million dollar lottery is not what I'd call a "problem" tongue.gif

But if you think it is, and if you ever do, then give me a call. I'll be more than happy to manage your problem for you.
Dan + Gemvita
Go for anonymous.
Jonesie
I'd remain anonymous

Break off my immediate fam a nice piece of change

Sell my things here, but buy a home either in FL or ATL (basically somewhere with decent weather and close to a big city)

And me and hubby would move back to Jamaica
SoL.
I'd try to remani anon. When you have this kind of ca$h you get uncalled "friends" from everywhere tongue.gif
novotul
But I might pack it in and move to her country!
nate_loves_daisy
I would accept the check, smile for the press and probably say something cheesy like using the money to buy a tank of gas. Afterall I would be a millionaire with a lot more time on my hands.
DakotaK1
Remain Anonymous due to the fact that you can get alot of false friends and stuff like that.
krakatoa
Stay anonymous.
Zee Bee
Don't play.
warriorprincess
I'll prefer to remain nameless. I have enough family thank you very much. wink.gif laughing.gif
o0pink0o
anonymous
PlatyPius
I'd prefer that no one know.

However, Mags would probably figure it out after I brought home my 4th new bike in a week and construction started on my new 2 story garage/shop....
SMOKE
i'd remain anonymous. until i bought a 2 million dollar commercial during the superbowl to read off a list of people that could kiss my azz! devil.gif
Ms. Squirrel
I would remain anonymous.

Imagine the flood of VJers asking for money to cover their immigration costs! laughing.gif

I know Powerball says that a condition of claiming the prize is that you allow yourself to be publicly known for publicity purposes. If you don't want to do that, you don't get anything. However, you could probably buy a new identity with 50 million. whistling.gif

I'd do my best to remain anonymous as well. I don't need a lot of people around me with their hands out. I'd give money to my family and CLOSE friends and then hubby and I would quit our jobs in a second.

KitEEgirl
I'd take care of my family and make sure they were financially at ease...

We'd probably buy a house in Germany and upgrade here.....

I don't think I'd "go public".
Mina76
Same here

I would take care of my family first and make sure they are financally secured.
Then buy a house in the USA and a house in Turkey! ahhh such wishful thinking whistling.gif
greeneyedgirlfl
Remain anonymous...but move to London...
rkl57
You usually don't have a choice though - I believe you must allow the lottery to publicize it if they so choose.

Of course, we all know what happened when Hurley won the lottery and got on TV...

he had the bad luck because he used the unlucky numbers not because he was on TV whistling.gif ...

I'd keep it private, but I'd let my boss know that I work because I like to -- and I might ask for a raise, just to put management on good behavior.
