Full Version: Exit permit needed for baby?

We had a baby in the Philippines about the time that my wife's US Visa arrived.

It took 3 weeks to get a NSO birth certificate, which was required to file to report a birth of a US citizen abroad. It took the embassy till today, about 1 month, to get the baby passport to us. On hearing the passport was in the mail, I obtained plane tickets for about a week from now.

Here is the problem.

The passport came with a little slip of paper in it that said I need to get an exit permit for the baby, with a phone number and address.

It is Thursday night in the Philippines. If it is going to take time to get the thing, then the wife should go there first thing in the morning, and be there when they open.

If it is quick with no lines, or if it can be handled somehow in the airport, then I need to know now so I can tell her what to do next.

I googled "exit permit" and "Philippines" and got nothing at all relevant.

Anyone have experiance with this?

Exit Permit? You mean DSWD travel clearance? That's probably it but the best bets is to call the US embassy and ask them.

DSWD travel clearance is required if the child is:
  1. Travelling alone;
  2. Travelling with a person other than his/her parents or those exercising parental and legal custody of the child;
  3. Travelling for the purpose of adoption abroad (inter-country adoption);
  4. Minor adopted in the Philippines;

More info here: http://www.dswd.gov.ph/faqdetails.php?id=42

I don't think there should be a problem if all three of you will be traveling at the same time.

This is assuming that the exit permit is the DSWD travel clearance, like I said the best thing to do is call the US embassy in Manila.

Good luck!
