LisaD has made many attempts to make this place more active -- I propose the VJ pub thread!

Post your chit-chat (all the crap you might discuss in the pub) here and keep it light people!

today I saw jo and slade from the real housewives of orange county at a "british pub" in hollywood.

i have had a good week of celebrity spotting -- daniel craig was short and grumpy looking, james mcavoy looked smoking and I can report john travolta derfinitely wears a wig!

MichelleandCraig
oooo nice! Yes, I AM a total dork, THANK you very much, but I don't mind saying that I wouldn't be averse to meeting Daniel Craig OR John Travolta! Wig or not. tongue.gif (Isn't he a scientologist too? As long as he's not as freakish as Cruise about it...sheesh! Nothing against the religion itself, of course....each to his/her own!) M.

I rarely EVER spot anyone up here in the boondocks...most was when I worked at the (smallllllll) airport for a couple of years...the country singer Mark Chestnutt, Def Leppard (a couple have a vacation place up here) and very few others...I'm celeb deprived. Oh well...I'm not bummin on it or anything...Craig cares way less than I do...he just loves Dylan (Baaaab, as he says I pronounce it tongue.gif ) and he doesn't even really care about meeting him...he says they're just another person..no better or worse than you or I. Well, he's right, but stilllllllllllll. tongue.gif

...and PS...I like Daniel Craig...we just watched Casino Royale the other night...(wasn't that the new one with him?) but I still like Pierce Brosnan best as 007. smile.gif M.

Cute idea for a thread! Now...who has the pints??? (even tho I hate beer.... tongue.gif On second thought, bring me a slo gin & orange.... I'm a "don't really wanna taste the alcohol, but still wanna get loaded kinda girl.... smile.gif

I've only ever spotted one celebrity. It was sad actually. This was years ago while the Scream movies were huge.

I was standing in line at the post office, sneaking peeks at this guy in front of me in line. It looked like he had cut a sleeve off of a tshirt and was wearing it as a hat. I was being discreet with my peeks trying to figure out if it WAS a t-shirt sleeve. I live in a fairly small town and he was chatting with the Postal service people..figured he went to school with someone's daughter. So he leaves and I go up and plunk my packages on the counter. The lady looks at me and says 'You have no idea who that was do you?'..."Um, no. Should I?" Turns out he was the male lead in Scream, I can't remember his name. He apparently lives around here.
ajames79
Was his name Skeet Ulrich or something along that???

Ummm we've had several celebs around here. They occasionally film movies in these here parts! (western NC mountains)

Jodi Foster, Andi McDowell, Liam Neeson, Natasha Richardson, oooh here's one Burt Reynolds (ha), He used to have a house here.

Several others but it has been a while...no body spectacular. I didn't get to meet any of them but I've been to Berts house, and Jodi Foster was a complete ###### at that time in her life to most fans!

Even though it is 8:30 a.m. I'll have a pint of bitter please!
Lauren and Dave
I'm useless at celeb spotting. I live in new york so you'd think i'd see loads but i just don'e pay attention. Once in England i was standing next to liam gallagher at a urinal in a london pub and didn't realise until my mate told me afterwards.

I went to Calif with work, looked all over Hollywood and couldnt spot one ha. I remember everytime we stoped at a light we looooooooooked ha . I think someone in the group finally thought they saw Danny Bonadouche (prob spelled wrong), but who knows. We even went thru Beverly Hills checking out the houses, but of course no one ever came out. Actually those houses were a surprise to us not what we thought they would have been.

When i went to Dublin in April 2005 Gary and i were waiting at the airport for the bus, and who came walking by us was Nicky from Westlife laughing.gif Gary had NO idea who he was but i really liked that boy band. Gary said to me go up to him, but i was too chicken so i told him to, anywho thats the only celeb i have ever seen up close and personal.

I saw Richard Fairbrass (lead singer of Right Said Fred "Too Sexy") in the Parkside private hospital in Wimbledon a few years back. The doctor came out, greeted him and said "Good morning Mr Fairbrass".

I've also seen:

Michael Palin - very tall.
Jonathan Ross - very scruffy.
Terry Wogan - very portly.
Mo off of Eastenders - very loud.
A few newsreaders - very nondescript.
Numerous The Bill actors - very policey.

Erm and some others, can't remember really.
Happy Bunny
Yay what a cool thread!!! Thx Robin!!!! heart.gif

To add to the thread, Alice Cooper once bought me a pair of boots, and I met Lenny Kravitz in a 7-11. smile.gif

Shocking! ohmy.gif wink.gif

That is funny - I have also seen Palin, Wogan and Ross. I used to have an office overlooking the actor's church in Covent Garden and would often spend many afternoons star spotting. Way too many to mention. Loads of The Bill actors seem to hang out in Brighton too for some reason. Me and me mam once saw Princess Margaret coming down an escalator in Harvey Nicks. My Mum didn't realise who it was as she was too busy looking at her hands and turned around and said to me "She doesn't do much housework". laughing.gif

I also have worked with some 'celebs' on books - Rick Stein (lovely bloke), Jamie Oliver (no comment), Philip Pullman (no comment, again), Kevin McCloud (a big dirty flirt), Mary Quant (she's VERY shy but sweet), Carol Vorderman (great nights out getting pissed), Miriam Stoppard (NOT nice), and my favourite claim...Sister Wendy good.gif

Eddie Izzard and Paul O'Grady were regs in the pub where I would go for lunch at work and Richard Branson went to my local when I lived in Maida Vale - he is one of the nicest blokes you will ever meet. Laurence Lewellyn Wotsit was my neighbour for 4 years who was very nice but his wife held VERY loud parties. We also used to see Vic & Bob in the pub next door to our school so lunchtimes were spent glued to the windows.
Lou Lou
Forgot the most obvious one. My dad's cousin was Tommy Cooper. secret7vf.gif

There is no chance to celeb spot in dullsville Vermont. Sandra Bullock's sister runs a bakery/deli a block away but that is about it. Sandra does visit and when she does, there is a line half a mile long to see her serve. There may be some others poodling around at the ski resorts but buggered if I'm going there to spot them. I miss Heat and Now magazine for some trash reading.
MissStacey
I met Jim Carrey and Nicolas Cage together at a bar in Montreal. Jello bar. Jim Carrey was so nice! He is very tall and his teeth are huge!

I also saw Nicolage Cage again in New Orleans. He was directing a movie and they were doing some filming on Bourbon Street.

I have also met Michael Damien (Young and the Restless)

I saw Nancy McKeon (Jo from Facts of Life) at Expo 86 in Vancouver.

I saw Jann Arden one night at a nightclub in Edmonton (Canadian Singer)

Mark Messier opened a door for me once and I thanked him.

A friend of mine met David Duchovney in Vancouver and got me his autograph. I was in love with him!

When I was a nail tech, I used to have a customer who was on the Minnesota Vikings. He was inducted into the hall of fame the second year I knew him. His name's Chris Carter. I gave him manicures every week during his off season, as well as having his wife and MIL as customers too.

The first time I met him, all the guys in the salon were going ga-ga...I didn't know why, lol...so in the course of conversation, I say

'so what do you do for a living' laughing.gif

One day, ESPN did 'a day in the life' with him and they came into my salon. So there I am buffing his nails when the interviewer says 'so what are you doing to his nails?' and I'm all 'erm, I'm buffing them' like wtf does it LOOK like I'm doing? and then the interviewer's all 'what's that for?' and I'm all 'to make em shiny, duh'

LOL

I cannot stress how nice and gracious and 'normal' they were. Seriously. Amongst my clients who had private jets, one had a dining table which sat 36 people, 3 and 4 homes a piece...Rolls Royces...kids in European boarding schools, etc. Seriously they could have anything they ever wanted...these people would look down on anyone with a $500k winter home as being 'small' laughing.gif ...out of all of my customers, the Carters were the least self-involved, the nicest, most down to earth people I have ever met. They'd always be interested in how my day was, what's going on with me, etc...just all around wonderful and gracious & I couldn't speak more highly of them.

LOVE Eddie Izzard and Paul O"Grady! Not surprised Jamie Oliver is a twat. He has a fat tongue. End of!

And I can well imagine Kevin McLoud being flirty. My friend has the hots for him...

I'm very jellus of the Palin sightings! Years and years ago I spoke to Graham Chapman on the phone. He was very sweet and not drunk, bless his soul.

A couple of years ago my guy and I went to see Judith Owen and Harry Shearer perform in a small club in San Francisco, and Robin Williams sat directly behind us! I was holding my breath, because I've seen Robin Williams before and sometimes he can make it "all about ME!" instead of the performers on stage but he was well-behaved that night.

Yep smile.gif Well a brief synopsis goes like this...mind you, it's not verbatim, but it was summat of the sort:

Saw him in the mall, went up to him and was like 'alice cooper dude!' and he was all 'hey sup?'...anyways, me and my best gf spoke to him and his little auntie (who was teensy and oh so cute)...he was tryin to keep everything on the DL, I wound up telling everyone in the mall that he was there, lol...so there was a line out of the shoe store he was in....he sees me, knocks on the glass & does the 'come here' finger. I go there, I'm all 'hey I'm sorry but you're ALICE FCUKING COOPER!' and he started to laugh. Then i look down and I'm like 'dude those shoes are hideous' So he's all amused by my 'moxy' or summat so he's all 'which ones would you pick?' so I picked him a perfect pair of shoes. Then he's all 'hey nice choice' so I say how I'm a shoe freak, and he's all 'which pair is the nicest one in here?' so I point to these boots. Anyways, he leaves and some worker comes up to me and asks me what size I am...I'm all 'what for?' they walk away and come back with the boots in my size and they're all 'compliments of Mr Cooper'

white calf high boots that flap down with rhinestones all on them...they were like 90 bucks.....

oh, did I mention it was the late 80s? lol
Itsmeitsmeitsree!
Billy Ray Cyrus was my neighbor when I was a kid. (mid 70's)
I saw Geena Davis once when I was in Beverly Hills. (1999)
Saw Annie Lennox in London in 2004.
A few others, but that's all I can think of right now.

Did you wear these boots with your purple fur coat?

I am amused by NBA starts getting regular manicures!

I guess I see celebrities regularly because of job and where I live - thougg my favourite of all time was tripping over Bruce Springsteen in a Chicago bar (didn't realize it was him) and he steadied my arm and asked if I was okay. I swooned for like a week.

What has everyone been doing this Sunday? I have been catching up on reading papers (can never throw them away without reading), watching Entourage on the DVR, watched the West Ham-Tottenham match and played frisbee on the beach. Also had to extract my cat from a tree she got stuck up into.

He was NFL, but now I'm just being pedantic. But yeah, manicures all the time. It's actually not as odd as one might think...after all, who wants to have unkept fingernails and raggly cuticles?

But he did get pedicures too...although I didn't do peds. He wanted me to, but my rule is...if I'm not sleepin with ya, I am NOT touchin your feet. lol

Oh, and I WISH i had a full purple fur coat! Sadly mine's only cuffs and collar....but if I had one, I'd wear the shiznit outta that thing...WITH rhinestone boots, lol

Cool story, Lisa...now that you've told it, I seem to recall it...you may have mentioned it another time in a celebrity thread or summin.

Oh mannnnnnnn ....the BOSS. I would loveeee to meet him too. AND, just to show what a total geek I am, would love to meet John Bon Jovi too. wink.gif (Gawd, Craig hates Bon Jovi, so every time "Who says you can't go home" or whatever it's called comes on, I always tease him and turn it up...oh, our fave song is on..blah blah... laughing.gif

Had to have a chuckle to myself about that. "Cuffs and Collar" often refers to something else in the UK. For example, "I bet her cuffs and collar don't match" wink.gif

My whine for the day, and actually the entire week is the weather. Another classic brit pub subject. Away with the snow! We've had 10 inches over the last couple of days (which isn't that much), and expecting another 10 this week on top of a massive 30 inches on V day. I know I can't complain too much, cos I do live around several ski resort areas, but geez, I've had enough and need some warmth. This week our night time lows are -23c (-11f) and getting to a balmy -17c (1f) in the day. Don't even go there with the wind chills. I know we get cold and snow like this, and do every winter...but in March? I long for spring and daffodils in Hyde Park. sad.gif

This guy on Dave's 'team'...omG he's so hilarious...he's like some aging queen (but he never came out of the closet) who wears this atrocious bowl cut wig. He fusses a lot and clucks more than a chicken. Always has to be right, always thinks he knows everything....If you all really knew this guy, you'd appreciate what I was about to say.

I wish I would have been able to go to the pup quiz when I was visiting London... I thought it would be like those quiz games in bennigans or in the sports bars you find here.

As for celebrities, I have not seen many, but I have seen a few. I work at one of the nicer Disney resorts so you would think that I would see them more often... but I don't. I have seen Ty Pennington in the Atlanta airport... Jerry Bruckheimer at the ShoEast convention showing of National Treasure (I was invited by my client b/c I was working with their reservations)... I saw Bob Sagat at Beaches and Cream at Disney's Yacht and Beach Club Resort back in the 90's when Full House came to film at Disney... I also saw the Olsen twins backstage in the Magic Kingdom when they were there filming... I saw Babyface at Underground Atlanta back in the late 80's (I had no idea who he was then and asked someone what the big deal was.. was told it was Babyface and the next night he was on Arsenio Hall). I have seen AJ from the Backstreet Boys at a club here in Orlando. I met Joey from NSync when I went to his Christmas party a couple of years ago. Back in the early 90's, I walked right past Sam Elliott and Chris Issac as they were going to a record industry party at Pleasure Island. Oh... and I have seen a few celebrities when I was in the cast choir for the Candlelight Processional at Epcot... my favorites were Gary Sinese and Jon Secada - they are both so very nice! Angela Bassett was going for the Oscar when I did one of her performances. I wanted to laugh when everytime she would speak, she would spray spit all over the Voices of Liberty who were singing in front of her. And back in the mid 90's the Disney Institute had a mini Andy Garcia film festival. I went to about 3 nights of Andy Garcia movies (I LOVED him at the time!) and he would have a Q&A after each movie. He was so nice and very down to earth. And every year, I see ABC soap stars in the lobby when they are at Disney for the Super Star Soap Weekend - but don't know who any of them are b/c I don't watch any of the ABC soaps. Anyway, those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

Ok ive seen George Bush in london and his motor cade, the police stoped me in Baker street and he drove past sitting next to colin powell

Actually Emmitt Smith was a (I THINK) running back for the Cowboys....very small point that makes no difference, but my ex was a HUGE Cowboys fan so we used to watch a lot back in the 90s (go figure...and me being a GB Packers girl, who were big rivals with them...I never liked them like he did though...just pretended. wink.gif Unlike ManU who I really DO like and will even when they start losing again...and pretty much every team does eventually..just hopefully not for a long time!!!! tongue.gif ) (WOW. That was the longest run-on sentence ever I think!!!) laughing.gif Troy Aikman was the QB back then.... smile.gif M.

PS...Wow, Spence...you've met a lot though! ...and Tony Blair..that's cool. We saw the President of South Korea and his entourage when I was visiting England... laughing.gif
