Full Version: The best place to watch......

Lauren and Dave
I was watching the Man Utd Liverpool game this morning (Liverpool fan - gutted) and i came to the relisation that I prefer watching the game here than back home.

I watch the games in a bar called Nevada Smiths in New York and the atmosphere is incredible. Back home yopu go to the pub to watch the game and it's a bit subdued. Here the fans sing and chant throughout thee game and have good banter with opposition fans without it getting nasty. If todays chants and banter had been in a pub in england there would more than likely have been trouble.

It was a concern of mine before i moved out here so I am glad I have found a place where football is religion! I am not sure its the same anywhere else in New York or the USA. It seems a very unique place.

Anyone else found a good place to watch the football? If not and you live in New York then try Nevada Smiths! 3rd Avenue Btw 11th and 12th Streets.

I've heard of that place. I'm told the Sunderland USA supporters congregated there quite often.

A couple of supporters clubs congregate there. Sunderland, barcelona and Manutd to name just three.

I was in there last year for the luton liverpool fa cup tie and luton fans outnumbered the liverpool fans.

He'll be flying into NYC so I'm sure we'll check it out while we're there.

I aplogize for this Lauren&Dave, but since you're Liverpool I can't really resist telling you that we're ManU supporters in this house.... wink.gif (Ok, if you really are like truly ANGRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY about that, then I'm sorry...I am just teasin' and all.....but I'm still glad we won. wink.gif )

We were watching the Chelsea game today and the cable messed up for some reason at about the 70th minute. (Didn't matter in the end anyway Iguess.) Anyway, wouldn't you know it....the ONLY channel still not fixed is Fox Soccer. That CANNOT happen in THIS house... laughing.gif I've been on the line with Charter once...looks like I'm gonna have to call them again. *sigh* I was so annoyed with all their stupid MENUS this morning that I just kept talking over the automated chick saying customer serviceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Finally after about the fifth time, the bot said "I will connect you to a customer service rep." I actually spoke back to the thing....THANK you!!!! laughing.gif M.

PS...and btw, how cool that you have such a great place to watch! I wish we had somewhere like that... sad.gif

sad.gif We're allllllllllll the wayyyyyyyyy up the state from MKE, but thanks for thinking of us anyway! We're almost 300 miles north of there on the border of the UP of Michigan...I am from southern WI originally (almost right on the border with Illinois, actually laughing.gif ) but there's not much up here in the boondocks. Exciting season, hey?? We're out to get ya this year! wink.gif smile.gif M.

Sorry, but Nevada Smith's is only fun if you basically like standing in a stinky sauna for the duration of the game, and often have to pay for the 'priviledge' to do so. There are much better places to watch matches in NY than there.
esteban
Should add that I've also seen a Spanish kid beat up for being Spanish during a Champion's League match there, so not quite sure about the 'friendly' vibe.

It's like being at a match 10 years ago. Like standing on the terrace chanting for you team! I love it in there. I have been to several other bars irish and otherwise aand none can match the atmosphere of NS. They only charge for some fixtures - some international games and cup ties. All premier league and champions league are free to get in.

If you want a seat, which i don't consider necessary, then get there 15 to 20 mins before KO and you will easily get one. Other bars i have been too have had a bit of atmosphere in that they shout and scream and cheer, BUT they do not sing for their team, there is not the friendly banter with a hoard of opposition supporters.

Each to there own i guess but for watching football i like to have the atmosphere of NS. If i were to go out for a drinking sesh then no i would probably not go to NS.

PS. As for the spanish kid getting beaten up - sorry to hear about that, it's one of those unfortunate, rare incidents that can happen anywhere and is an absobloodylute disgrace. Ignorant b**t**ds who should be hung up by their whats names.

I'll have to check that one out, haven't been there yet.

And being that I live in Central Fl, it's a lot closer than NS lol

Alright, I know you guys are talking about physical locations to watch the games, but what about at home? Are there any internet sites that you can go to to watch games? I'm going to be getting the fox soccer channel again, but I guess they don't show all the games there. Dave is a Glasgow Rangers fan, and this is VERY important to him.

I pay a subscription to "Chelsea tv online"

I am able to get all the games broadcasted, sound only. After midnight gmt, all the goals are online. Check to see if rangers do a similar thing.

We pay for Setanta Sports Channel through our satellite provider....Direct TV. Between that and Fox Soccer Channel, I've only missed one match (including Cup matches).....and Heather back in the UK has missed 6-7! She's fuming mad that I've seen Chelsea play more than she has!!! LOL I checked and they show Rangers matches.....don't know if it's ALL of them...but some of them for sure!

What's this place in Orlando?? NEver heard of it!! We usually go to "London Bridge" or Fly's Tie here in Jax...but actually we usually just watch it from home on Fox Soccer.

Stew's a Celtic supporter (weird as he's from Australia) but...he is nonetheless.

I've recently adopted Everton as my team (Since I didn't have one!)

Since we're friends and you have no allegiance, you need to support Sunderland devil.gif Or else we'll never come for the pub quiz in Jax tongue.gif
