hello everybody!

I was wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to change the location of the embassy interview?

My wife and I live in Italy but we have to move to Romania due to unexpected circumstances. Therefore the interview should take place in Romania and not Italy. We have already been approved for the I-130 immigrant visa and it is making its rounds.

The problem now is that we don't know if we can change the place of the interview and how to that. Can anyone please help ?

You need to contact the US Embassy where you want to have your new interview and request that you have your interview with them. You will need to fill out a transfer form, and the transfer will be processed internally between the two embassies.

Good luck!

cd11111, thank you for your reply. I noticed in your timeline that you requested a transfer. Is there a form we have to use? I would appreciate any more insight you can give.

Thanks,

Dre

No problem, Dre! Here is the link to the Form DS-3098:

If that link doesn't work, you can find it here:

CD...thank you sooooooo much for the form. Now that I have it I wonder if changing the location of the interview will affect the process in any way. My husband is moving for work related purposes from Colombia to Madrid, Spain for a year and we originally just thought he would fly back for his interview in Bogota. But after our ordeal there, I started thinking, why not just interview in Spain. A US consulate is a US consulate? Well, I will certainly discuss this with my attorney but just in layman's terms, did the transfer affect your situation at all?

I don't think it would be difficult for you to do that since you have a valid reason why you would want the interview in Spain. Once you know that your packet reached the US Embassy in Colombia (meaning you have your case # already), contact one of the consuls at the US Embassy, Spain either by email or phone and make sure they approve your request. They will ask you to fill out that form and email or fax it to them. They will be the one to request the transfer from Colombia, and the Colombian US Embassy should forward your packet to the US Embassy in Spain. You will hear from the US Embassy in Spain once they received your packet and you should be able to arrange an interview schedule with them by then.

Just be ready to provide the documents you may be needing from your country as those won't be available in Spain, like birth certificate, police clearance, certificate of no marriage for K-1, and vaccination records. There is no difference in the procedures and won't have any effect in your situation.

Good luck,
cd
