Keep it to yourself, people. Most people don't want to hear it, and it doesn't make you cool.

When I sit at the PC it is usually at brekkie or lunchtime. Or elevenses, or post lunch munchies...you get the idea. So, when I read "stuff" it puts me off my food. Hold on, actually, keep posting the TMI, it'll be a good diet plan. The VJ Diet Plan!

Totally. If it's about body fluids/any sort of toilet humor or reference, it's ALWAYS TMI, IMO. Sex, it depends, although I don't know why people reveal the really intimate stuff here or make lewd jokes. Especially when their partner is on VJ too. As for people's personal lives, it's never really TMI for me unless it's boring. Then I just read a different thread.

OMG-YES-Way too much TMI!
Personally; I don't want to know if there are hairs in whatever orifices and drips from others, or how long/often/not enough/too often you all like to rumpy pumpy or when someone's menstrual cycle is!

I can't believe the stuff people put out there. To each there own, I guess, but you better be damn sure your other half is "okay with that"
Otherwise: justifiable homicide

Yeah. I don't find most of the posts here to be TMI. I'm not terribly squeamish, and generally of the opinion that the Internet is for asking questions that you're too embarassed to ask your real life friends.
Well, it's also for lewd jokes. And games with yetis and pingus. But also for information gathering. As long as it's done reasonably respectfully (talking about a partner is a bit much for my tastes.)
Gross detail isn't needed, but then 'what do you do to change the date of your period' is only gross if you think that mentioning menstruation is beyond the pale. (My goodness! Bring back the liminal huts already.)

I am suprised I have'nt seen " HELP! SO needs an enema " or " ADVISE PLEASE ! Can anyone recommend a good brand of disposable douche ? " . To quote the Beatles, ' It's all too much ' .

I don't think the mere topic of menstruation is a bad thing. IMO when you're describing sex with Flo as 'get the towels handy' it's like 'wtf?'
or when there's a poll sayin 'how many times do ya do it?' and all the posturing comes into play
or when you're describing sexual scenarios
or wondering about nasal hair
or anything that wouldn't be considered 'normal' dinner conversation...I just think it's high on the ICK factor.
Yes, it's the internet...but I am no different on here than I would be should you be standing in front of my face. I think a risque conversation with your best friend MIGHT include some of these topics, but to put it in print where it always will be just seems odd.

But I think the sex topics are often a way of increasing the ego for the OP. Kind of like "I am a stud muffin who has sex 8 times a day. How often do you have it?".

Yes, exactly.
I guess a lot of people don't realize how that comes off or maybe they just don't care. But generally, I think the effect is opposite of what is intended.

...for the same reasons why some post pics of their cars, or a pet, SO, etc. Isn't there an element of ego stroking with all posts? The ones that come off a bit unsociable get ignored, so post content has a way of correcting itself here - it seems.
I just find it amusing to make a thread to somehow affirm what is a rather subjective view.

Well being as I've posted pics of my pet and I think also my car...I'll say that my motivation behind both was not for my ego to be stroked. But I wouldn't equate talking about my sex life with David as on par with talking about my car or pet.
