My foreign wife and I married 3 months ago in her home country. I am a US Citizen. I already filed the I-130 petition and received the I-797 (receipt notice) a couple of months ago. After that, I filed the I-129F (K-3). So now we are just waiting. Here are my questions:

1. She is currently pregnant and will probably give birth before the visa is approved. Do we need to do anything to make sure our newborn baby will also receive a visa, and not be left behind?

2. My foreign wife still has her maiden name on her passport but is still valid for travel. Must she update her passport to show her married name and use that as supporting doc for the visa application? Or is the old passport sufficient?

3. Also, my understanding is that when the K-3 petition is approved, the US Embassy/Consulate will notify my wife about the next step (DS-156, medical, etc.). Is this correct? In other words, there's nothing else we need to do/submit until we are notified, right?

when the baby is born, all you'll have to do is go to the US consulate and report the birth abroad. Unless you've been out of the US for 5 years or more, it should have automatic citizenship through you.

Did you apply for DCF at the consulate, or petition for K3 at a service centre in the US? I'm confused.

thanks for the info! i filed both the i-130 (IR/CR) and i-129F (K3) in the US. I reside in the US and my wife resides in the Philippines.

To answer your third question: Yup - you are right, there is nothing else that is required of you till you hear from them. The US Embassy will notify your wife of the remaining forms she needs to fill out and what she needs to bring with her to her interview... till then - just make sure your avidavit of support is ready to go...
