Just wondering, based on some responses to the thread I started about what people are reading these days. I'm a little out of touch with today's bestsellers/popular books....

I stick to books in my favorite genre(s)& I rely on references from others. I have read many books that I would have never read unless someone suggested it. I read mostly essay/thinking type works, personal/historical stories and accounts, and some fantasy like The Hobbit and Chronicles of Narnia.

I don't know about the best sellers and such.

I read a book again if I really liked it, maybe a year later.

I like to read in bed before going to asleep.

Mostly I read books again because I dont remember a lot of what I read before.. I dont normally have a bad memory.. but when reading novels and such I tend to read quickly and probably miss a lot.. I do remember the main plot and all but I forget little details, so they are still entertaining for me to read... My husband hates how many books I have, but I can read a book several times and still enjoy it...

I reread a few books wayyy down the line when I forgot completely what they were all about, lol.

But only if I really remember that I enjoyed them. Like the book Porno that I'm reading now is the sequel to Trainspotting. and that is one of my fave movies and books. So it was really interesting reading...especially when the characters narrate different chapters and some of the writing is in regional dialect that's a biotch to get thru, heh...it's like a challenge.

I tend to stick to crime/thrillers and mystery books. I like medical and police procedurals too. I do vary my reading sometimes if there is an author I like and he/she releases a new book.

But I read before going to sleep, so I don't like something that makes me have to concentrate TOO hard...

Books I reread are His Dark Materials, LOTR and a few by select authors I have a fondness for.

I enjoy reading on a long flight. It helps to kill time. Matter of fact, I need to buy one for my up-coming trip to the Philippines. 20+ hours wacko.gif

I always reread books I like. I like to read romance, thrillers, sci-fi, etc.

I feel like there are so many books out there in the world that I don't like to waste my time on trash. Not an elitist attitude, just practical. I read as much as I possibly can.

I don't read. Not sure I even remember how anymore.

Awesome! I have to get that book. I loved Trainspotting!

I'll read anything that holds my interest from the first few pages.

There have only been a few books I haven't finished.

There was one Stephen King book I was reading a few years ago, the movie was out when I was reading it. The movie was so stupid, it turned me off of the book!

I do go by cover (title, author--and I guess the genre from these), especially on the "new books" shelf.

You can easily tell my favourite books by the dog-ears.

Hi Everyone,

Good luck on your immigration journeys. Wow, what an interesting message thread question, indeed, as I love reading! In answer to the message thread, my response is:

I like reading all types of books (fiction, non-fiction, etc.) though, so I can pretty much read anything. I read fiction books usually, and I usually pick a good book by: a) Scanning the bookshelves with my eyes. b ) Letting my eyes blur a little bit, until the words on the book spines stand out/jump out at me c) Picking up that book, and reading the first page d) If the first page hooks me in, then that’s the book that I will choose to read. Yes, I know this is a strange way of picking books to read, but it works for me. I also too read books that friends have recommended, which they have enjoyed reading too.

I read a lot of non-fiction, usually because I've heard about it on the radio or through a friend, or I've found it wandering through Borders or the library. I don't have a single book in my possession that isn't dog-eared from being read over and over and over, and I read every chance I get.
