It depends upon the state and the Motor Vehicle department there.

Her Insurance might have something to say about it as well.

I had to have a WA driver license before we could ad me to the car insurance. They were kind and did it anyway, now I have a license and just called in to give them the license number.

Who needs a Florida Driver's License? http://www.floridadrivers.com/drivers_lice...ers_license.php

Insurance? Insurance follows the car. Just as you can lend a visiting friend your car, and the car is still insured. According to the above link, my Natalia can be considered a "visitor" until she is her for 6-months.

You may want to check that, some policies specifically exclude people who reside at the same address.

We have just bought our first car, a Ford Explorer, and we have got insurance through Safe Co Insurance, who deal with international and they have accepted our brit licensce. Not too bad a deal either seeing as how they insured us both and it is what we normally call fully comp. We are hoping to take our Florida driving test within the next two weeks so the next time we renew our insurance it should be less

Val

Dont wait for the renewal of insurance, once you get your Florida licenses, call the insurance company as you should get a reduction in cost. If you paid in full they should give you a credit.

I remember when I bought my Ford Mustang in VA when I was on a J1 Visa. I argued with Geico for days to let me have insurance before getting my licence arguing my point that I can't pick up a US driving licence without a car to take the test in!

Now when I return on my K1 I will have my car there, insured under my finacees name but I have to take my test again once I AOS sad.gif
