I was snooping around on the CDN Passport site about name changes/adding married name to passport. I am wondering about biographical page though. Do you honestly just write in your new information? I haven't updated my biographical page in years, figuring you would have to have it "officially" updated. Hmmm..

It says on that link that you just need to carry proof of your new name - like your marriage certificate or name change document, I definitely wouldn't write anything on my passport! smile.gif

I think perhaps you mis-read my post. I was asking specifically about the biographical page.. that contains your address information.. Should that bit be updated by me everytime I move?

I don't know if the rules are different for Canada, but I update my US passport with my address and emergency contact information, when it changes. It even says on there to write in pencil, I think...

I wrote mine in pen (on my Cdn passport). I'll be moving soon and will also have a different "emergency contact" person... hmm...

I just looked in the FAQs and there's no place to "officially" update your info:

Keeping your passport up to date: http://www.pptc.gc.ca/help/faq.aspx?lang=e

How do I inform you of my change of address?

A change of address does not invalidate a passport. Please cross out the old address on page 4 of the passport and write the new one in the space provided. Do not use correction fluid. If the space provided in the passport is insufficient, write the new information on a separate piece of paper and insert it in the passport.

How do I change my emergency contact information?

In order to change your emergency contact information, please cross out the old contact on page 4 of the passport and write the new one in the space provided. Do not use correction fluid. If insufficient room remains on the page, write the new information on a separate piece of paper and insert it in the passport.

Should I get a new passport if my appearance has changed?

We do advise applicants whose appearance has changed prior to the expiry of their passport to obtain a new document, as the intent of the passport photograph is to accurately identify the person presenting their passport to border officials and prevent their experiencing difficulties when travelling outside of Canada.
