went to dr seiden in toronto this morning for my medical. when i got there, there was a man in the waiting room, and he was chatting with us.
he was there with his daughter, she was applying for a k1 visa.
heres where it gets interesting.....

he said that her fiance and his family have alot of money, and they were able to "buy" there way thru the visa process. the fiance is somehow related to a governor, and it has only taken 2 months for them to get to this point in the process mad.gif
then he started with somethin i cannot believe....he said that her visa is already approved and is at the border waiting for her. WHAT?????????
i said does she not have to go to montreal for an interview, he said, ya, she has to go there to talk to some guy there, and then shes going right to the border to pick the visa up(WTH?)
i asked if she already had an appointment for the interview, and he said no, she doesnt have to make one, she can go whenever she wants, as i said, her visa is already at the border ready to be picked up.

i found his story incredibly hard to believe. the part about being related to a governor and having a faster approval is believeable (to me), but the rest i think is horsecrap.
what do u all think? i mean, how can they approve her visa before she even has her medical results? what if she has TB or something else really contagious?

Governor Granholm of Michigan who's brother is a Padre with the Candian Forces?

Sounds like you had a conversation with a self-important, pompous, a$$.... don't let it rile you. Even if it ws true, what could you do about it except simmer?.... put that conversation on 'ignore'.

I think he was just making it up. Because if she already had a visa approved, then why bother wasting time at the medical, right? smile.gif

Either that or he's mixing things up. It's possible for her to have checklist 3 already in 2 months time if she's K1 and they filed in Vermont.

or hes gonna be hell of a disappointed man !!!!! so his daughter will be laughing.gif

Probably full of crap. But it wouldn't surprise me if some one with conenctiosn got their visa super quick. It's all who you know!!

Baloney. If you're on a fast track, it doesn't lead to a place where you wear a paper gown while being poked and prodded.

If it were true, I doubt he'd be stupid enough to talk about it. He should have just shut his mouth and picked up the darn visa. I think he was telling a story because he doesn't have anything else better to do.

Exactly! I'm sure people get pushed through the system faster all the time, but usually, they don't disclose this info to strangers.

THE OL BUGGER DOESN'T HAVE A FRIGGEN CLUE OF WHAT HE IS TALKIN ABOUT!
AND WHY IS HE ACCOMPANING HIS DAUGHTER AT A MEDICAL....LOL
heishe
Why would someone with lots of money and connections buy a K1? Just get a green card.
Our Mao
I totally agree with heishe....
The guy's probably full of sheet..... there are a lot of these kinds of people out there... ignore him!

Also, there are very few visas where the beneficiary can "just go to the border and pick it up"--and they certainly DON't include the K-1.

While it IS possible for a TN-1 (one of the abovementioned few types) married to a USC to "upgrade" to a CR-1 (through filing an I-130 and asking for processing at Montreal), this has plenty of risks (such as if the beneficiary takes a holiday outside US, he/she risks being denied entry UNTIL THE CR-1 APPOINTMENT IS COMPLETED).

Shann76, the tale you heard was several bulker-loads of rubbish.

You can go to the boarder and pick up a R-1 (Religous Worker) Visa with a diploma and a letter of employement.. Maybe the guy has some type of letter dyslexia smile.gif Who knows... the guy could just be a disturber too smile.gif

AFAIK, the types that can be picked up at POE/PFI:
  • TN-1
  • R-1
  • L-1A/B
  • any DERIVATIVE (spouse of temp worker) visas (even if the "primary" temp worker visa cannot be picked up this way) so long as the beneficiary is Canuck

It's a lot like the popular myth amongst desis that a Canadian passport makes it easier to get a GC (no, as the issuance of GC's is tied to the BIRTH country of the applicant; I have enough proof of that having gone through a nearly 2-year "hurry-up-and-wait" delay in my own GC process which finished in Dec. 1999).
