i had my medical this morning, and i admitted to the DR that i take paxil for depression. I showed him a letter from my doctor, which my doctor stated as a result of being separated from her husband, she became depressed and is currently on paxil. he also wrote that my mood has been much better lately and that he believes i will be able to be off the paxil once my immigration process is over.

i believe i could probably start weaning myself off it now, and would be ok, becasue the end is in sight lol.

now the dr who did the medical(it was at dr siedens in toronto), told me that he does have to make note of any psychiatric conditions,as it raises a little red flag, but i should not worry, as i had the note from my doctor which shows a positive prognosis. i asked him if i could be denied a visa because of it, and he said if i was, that i would be the first one he has ever heard of. he also said everyone and their brother is on paxil lol.

but because i am a natural born worrier, i am worried that it will affect my visa. oh, and he also told me that it would only be a concern if i had thoughts of suicide or of hurting others blink.gif (which i don't).

Should i be worried? has anyone else here been able to get their visa while having admitted depression during their medical? i am really starting to stress out about it.

Definitely NOT to worry. This question has been asked several times before, and everyone was approved at their interviews.

Like you stated, the only worry you would have about depression is if you had suicidal tendencies or if you were a threat to the safety of others.

Good luck at your interview.

omg, thank u so much for the fast response. i was literally feeling sick to my stomache about it worrying. then i started thinking, maybe i shouldnt have told him i was on it, then i thought, no its a good thing i did, because who knows what all they really test for during the bloodwork lol.

i have a way guilty consience(sp?). i can't lie. i always believe honesty is the best policy.

Honestly is ALWAYS the best policy with USCIS. Once they catch you in a lie, they are suspicious about what else you have lied about.

No point in causing any red flags. Others have regretted not telling the truth through their processes. It really never pays not to be honest.

thats exactly what i believe, non truths always have a way of coming back to haunt you.

I would not worry about it. So many people are on antidepressants. As long as you don't have a history of self-harm, you'll be okay. smile.gif

A big plus is that you don't have a history of mental illness and you have that letter from your doctor. Try not to worry. smile.gif

Be sure to work with your doctor to wean yourself off gradually.

And don't worry. Paxil and other anti-depressents are prescribed for a range of conditions including Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. It's a common drug these days. It won't affect your visa.

Just wanted to say I was one of those who admitted to Anti-Depressant usage in the past (in my case), and the Dr. noted it on my medical, and still made the commen that I was approved on the day of the Medical for the Visa. He did make a note of it in my file, but it never came up at the interview. I'm guessing here, but I assume that when the Panel Dr. recommends a person to get a visa, it's a yes or no thing. In my case the Dr. told me that if anything came up in my blood work or x-ray he would call me directly to let me know that there was a problem (leading me to believe it's a yes or no thing with the medical report). In my very limited experience it won't come up again.

Does anyone want me to scan my complete medical papers?

I paid for a second copy for AOS purposes and also because I just couldn't bear NOT knowing what was in that sealed envelope!

I would be happy to share it after removing my personal info of course. wink.gif

he said the smae thing to me, if anything comes up they will call. he also asked me if he could keep a copy of the letter, he said it was excellent and exactly what he needed. i hope that means its a good thing!

I'd be interested in seeing them (as you said, after you remove your personal info). Thanks for offering. smile.gif

thank u soo much for posting. knowing someone else who was on anti depressants and having it noted during their medical makes me feel a whloe lot better. phew lol.
i have heard it can be awful withdrawal symptoms. I will definately be talking to my dr about it.

now that i sit and think about it, i bet there is probably alot of people who are going thru the immigration process that are depressed, they shouldnt be surprised after what they make us go thru and how long it takes to get our visas. its horrible having to be away from loved ones for so darn long, and add on top of it, the uncertaintity, knowing that our future is in the hands of complete strangers. lol scarey
Emancipation
Exactly... and it continues (in K-1'ers case anyway), all the way through the AOS to the interview, and beyond. The truth is it's a huge ordeal packing up, leaving your country, being separated from your husband/fiance, and starting all over again. I think sometimes we forget how disruptive it is, just cause of our geographical and cultural closeness (in ways). If we had come from overseas, we'd give ourselves more grace, and I think you are right on the money. I've thought many times that I was going out of my mind, just yesterday I couldn't get out of bed ( I believe it was just overcome with the stress of paperwork, the exhaustion of having to do it, and a few other "unsetttling" issues we've had in locating a good church family). All of those things are not "little" things, and they take their toil on one's health.

All the best to you!!

I paid $50 for a second copy. I'll scan the files later today and post in a new thread.

Actually, I found online forms for the things that Canadian doctors have to fill out. Now ours that we get look different but the same information is filled out. In addition, I received a copy of the lab results for my chest x-ray and the two blood tests (HIV and syphilis).

Didn't you know? The government is in bed with the drug companies and gets a kickback for every intending immigrant who succumbs to depression. They also get a piece of the action for us parnoids taking Lithium. no0pb.gif
