My fiancee (the petitioner) received the letter from CIS that our case has now been forwarded to the Consulate in Montreal.

In the letter my fiancee received, NVC made a mistake (a typo .. they put a "R" instead of a "P") in my name (the beneficiary) and have sent my case to Montreal. Montreal has not yet received it as of yet.

I just called NVC and asked that they made a mistake in the name. They said that we should now get in touch with Montreal and ask for what and how they want to correct this! NVC cannot do anything at this point as the case has left NVC.

Does this affect my timelines, as to being pushed back for further evidence, etc? If Montreal actually receive our entire file (which has our all other documents that we submitted to CSC when filing I-129F) from CSC which has the correct name spelling, I guess the officer processing our case in Montreal may realise the mistake by NVC and may not be concerned... ??

fyi: We received the NOA2 hard copy and the name is spelled out corrrectly in that.

I am just putting all this other evidences together and hoping that the Montreal consulate realises that NVC made a mistake and that this does not affect our case processing timelines!

Buds, this is a Canadian crying for some help in how to get this fixed/corrected!!

Please respond!

You already have the answer; NVC told you to get in touch with the Montreal Consulate. Find out if they need any additional documentation or if the correct information in your file that is en route to them will be enough. Chances are they will be able to provide you with a better answer than the guesses people here will give.

I don't believe it will affect your timeline, but that would also depend on whether or not Montreal requires additional information.

Best of luck to you. smile.gif

in between sending in our original petition and approval, I moved to my parents' house to save money. When we knew that NVC had sent my petition to Montreal, Jerry (the USC) emailed Montreal and told them my new mailing address. It didn't delay our process at all. Do what they have told you -- contact them and see what they need, if they need anything.

Thanks guys. I was just wondering if anyone had ever experienced this kind of issues, or even heard of someone who had faced this.

There are lots of people who've had things mess up between NVC and their consulate...my Vancouver-bound petition went to Montreal.

My USC fiancé worked with both of the consulates to have it sorted out; our delay was insignificant (they'd already transferred it to Vancouver and by the time we found that out, they were sending packet 3 to me).

So yes, it happens. The consulates, in my experience, are really good at working with you in sorting it out, which is why it's really best to contact them asap.

Yeah, my fiancee moved during the last steps of the process. We called Montreal and they changed it without incident. It was pretty simple.

just wanted to add a small update.

...got in touch with Montreal yesterday and this morning i faxed them the required CAD citizenship docs that I was asked to submit as proof of correct name?!

will call them asking for followup on this later tomorrow-- give the slackers a day or two to work through this.

gaaa.. or you could clear it up at your interview.

That's what appearing in person is for, confirming information.

My fiance misspelled my name (!) and when I got my package from Montreal, it had a number I could call to correct my name (or other changes). I called, I was on hold for a while (thank goodness I have a great long distance plan) and it took about 30 seconds to fix.

Not a huge problem.

Yep what all the above said!! As wel lat the Interview, they give you all the paperwork back to check for mistakes!

My name on the letter sent by MTL didnt match the name on my passport. I emailed them to inform them of this and they said it doesnt matter and they will go with the name thats on my current passport.

sorry, did not get a chance to update this posting..

Last week friday, emailed MTL asking for what to do; but they did not respond to my email.

This week tuesday, i picked up the phone and called MTL and told them of the issue. The CSR mentioned that they were not going to respond to my emaill, but that it was a good thing i called... so, she corrected my name on their systems and also told me how to put my name on the forms.

insights:
My case was processed as "first_name middle_name last_name" but passport has only "first_name last_name".

So if you have this issue, enter "first_name middle_name last_name" on the forms (DS-230, DS-156, etc) even though your passport has only "first_name and last_name". -- my 2 cents...

again, the CSR was very friendly and ofcourse, i had to thank her, because, they record the calls that you make to your file... that's what she told me!!....

anyways... glad to have received your advice/points ...

i just sent out my packet 3 to MTL today morning... now medicals, and then long waiting begins...
