Is today Pancake day in the UK?
featherB
Yes it is!! Was just going to post about it here, in fact (and ask if I'm right in thinking you don't stuff your faces with pancakes in honour of Shrove Tuesday in the US...?)

I just got back from queueing for half an hour in the work canteen, for one tiny little pancake with lemon & sugar. Yummy, though. And tonight I will make a huge jug of batter and work my way through the lot - hurrah! (Hmm, possibly leaving enough left over for breakfast pancakes, too...)

That a good option for "Fat Tuesday" here in the US. Here in Michigan, Paczki's (pronounced poonch-keys) are the rage... basically fruit-filled doughnuts covered with powdered sugar. Twice the calories of a 'normal' doughnut! Some places sell King cakes as well, but they're not authentic.
featherB
My mind is boggling at the concept of packing a doughnut with even more calories than it would ordinarily have - how that's achieved I can't begin to imagine, but it sounds fantastic!! laughing.gif

You eat them cold right?

I'm still trying to wrap my brain around this..........

What else do you have with them? I mean, here we have bacon, eggs, all that stuff.....

I think most people probably have them with lemon and sugar - but chocolate (Nutella!), ice cream, anything else sweet goes as well! I do love loads of lemon juice and a sprinkling of sugar, though. I quite like savoury crepes, but... not on Pancake Day!

Oh, and we have them hot... straight from the pan. Make a pancake, eat a pancake, make a pancake, eat a pancake... until you've run out of batter!

Mmm.... must stop by the shops on the way home from work. smile.gif

There *is* a bonus to not living in the UK... at 6pm tonight, there were still Jif Lemons in the supermarket! kicking.gif

I didn't know it was pancake day until my mum texted me this morning.. I was really upset, mainly cos I realised I don't know how to make them properly! They always turn out weird when I try. Also, I think there's something weird about the flour here...
HuffyTheSlayer
Mmm, pancakes. We ate at IHOP last night and had some buttermilk pancakes (which I find way to dry and stodgy). But we made British pancakes later on and had some with sugar and lemon juice. smile.gif

Man, even pancakes here are different to the UK? *sigh* Craig has never mentioned that one before...he does like the pancakes I make though.. smile.gifM.
HuffyTheSlayer
British pancakes are more like crepe's, not thick and fluffy like buttermilk pancakes.
MichelleandCraig
Mmmmm. Hmmm. I think I would like that better...I love a good pancake now and again...but crepes? Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. smile.gif M.
