Hello everyone

I know everyone probably is just as clueless as I am on what to do now...as we all had thought DCF would be the way to go...but unfortunately it is (currently) not an option.
I was wondering if anyone knows, if one were to file the I-130 in the US now within a few weeks.... have that going around in the system. And if they bring back DCF, go to the local consulate and refile there. Is this possible, will they allow this, is this even worth trying if DCF is brought back?! Just a thought rolling around in my head...

hi Henia,

What you are asking is possible but it would mean that you would have to cancel the visa back in America which ould be such a pain in the ### that it wouldnt be worth it.

I have actually been looking into that email that you shared with us about doing it through Rome. That seems to actually be the best option right now.

Its definitely not as fast and as easy as normal DCF filing but its not as hard and arduous as filing back in America.

Hi Henia,

I've been thinking about the exact same thing. I think I will send my petition to the US and then, if they bring back DCF, request that my application be transferred to the US embassy here in Japan. Of course there is no guarantee that that will work, but I would like to get the application started and there is no fixed timeline for the return of DCF.

Good luck.

Peter

Henia,
We are now trying to do the exact same thing(my situation is even more complicated http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=55098 )
I am expecting news today so I will inform you what's going on,but I think I solely depends on the Consulate. Elle from this forum has filed at VSC and 2 mounths after that refiled through DCF in Sidney and has now both petitions pending. So it seems everything is possible,as long as the Consualte allows it.

In that today is President's Day (a Federal holiday) here in the US, I'm not expecting much in the way of news today.

A US-filed petition can not be transferred to the Consulate to complete adjudication, but a new petition may be filed (if you are offered that option again). Anyone who will try filing in both locations will have to pay the fee twice.

Thanks for the confirmation! I have started my journey officially and should the DCF come back I will gladly pay the $190 fee again if it means quicker processing.

just for info...

Chertoff is in charge of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and his agency had just announced astonishing fee increases to begin in April for various immigration documents.

For an alien relative petition (I-130), the current fee of $190, will rise to $355

The cost of applying for a green card, for example, will almost triple from $325 to $905.

hey v, congrats on getting it in the mail! It must be some kind of relief... smile.gif

I'm lol because of this in your siggy: YES IT'S REAL AND SPECTACULAR!
woo!

last---the immigration fees are not a revenue source for the US gov't---immigration is completely self-funded and a recent review found that fee revenues were not sufficient for the work load when they measured the time each task takes. All the details and charts are posted as uscis.gov (or in the threads here discussing it).

Ok, I take that back then. smile.gif I'll have faith in that they are using the price hike to install an even faster, more efficient system to process immigration cases.

Oh on a side note, I'd like to personally THANK YOU for your continued contributions on this forum! Your informative posts (past and present) have made life a lot easier for me when preparing my paperwork. I also applaud you for sticking around even when these forums got a little wild (like the DCF issue)!

I think you as well as a few other members should be credited for their help! KUDOS!!! good.gif
