Visa Journey Guides states that in order to prepare your fiance(e) for the visa interview, you are supposed to:

"Send all originals of the documentary proof that you submitted for the I-129F to your fiance(e) for their interview at the embassy. "

Some of the documentary proof I sent was a copy of my birth certificate and copies of every page of my passport. Do I really have to send my original birth certificate and my original passport to my fiancee for her interview? I sure hope not because I might need them.

A certified or notarized copy of the passport and birth certificate is acceptable.

It is understood and not a good idea to send your passport to your fiancee.

NEVER send your passport - you should never let your passport out of your own hand unless it's an absolute requirement i.e. checking into a European hotel.

Why? Do you need a certified notarized copy of the USC passport for the interview? This is a new one for me..... Consulate requirement?

I personally am sending a certified copy of my birth certificate over to my fiance, it's the only proof of citizenship I sent with the I-129F. Definately don't send the originals! If you really want to send a copy of your passport then go ahead, certified or notarized like YuAndDan suggested.

please note the word Guide. occasionally some common sense must be used in conjunction with literal interpretation. Since the passport is not part of the I-129 i would say nothing is required for it. Just my opinion

I agree with Kitkat, the best thing to do is to keep your passport and send a copy. good.gif

I didn't send any originals to my fiancé nor the copy of the whole 129F package, but his embassy was a very "gentle" one (Netherlands). They barely ask for any evidence. He provided what they asked on the checklist.

Good luck!
