I did a quick search for this and didn't find anything that specifically related. I'm just quadruple-checking all of our documents and I have a question about my I-864. I have lived an worked in the UK for 5+ years. On my I-864 for my husband, I was going to put my income in question 25 'Income Tax Return Info' ex. $XX,XXX. In the instructions it asks for total income from my tax return. As I filed my 1040 with my 2555, the actual figure on the 'total income' line on my tax return is $0.00 (because I didn't earn more than the $80,000 or so threshold). Do I put my actual income, or my tax return 'total income'. Sorry if this sounds stupid, but the way they word these things is making me confused.

Follow the instructions the best you can; if there is an error, you'll hear about it and have a chance to change it.

If your income is from overseas, it won't "count" per se on the I-864 anyway; I prepared a summary attachment for my I-864 to explain the various oddities and show how we actually did have money even if it didn't show on a tax return.

If you have a US income, or job offer or assets, make sure you have them documented.

Thanks Meauxna! I'm actually taking two versions of my I-864, just in case! I'm not sure why I'm freaking out about mine because I don't have any US income, so I still need my dad as a joint sponsor. But, I'm just so worried about getting one little thing wrong... I've been waiting a LONG 6.5 years to move home with my husband and I don't want to get caught out on the paperwork! K, that is a great strategy.. taking 2 documents (did the same for my I-130 back when. I also had my I-864 pre-reviewed on a visit to the Consulate before the visa interview). You'll always get the opportunity to correct things to the way the want them--a great advantage to being there in person!
Remember that I was unemployed when we came back too. Never *did* get that job I told 'em I would....

Thanks for the reminder Meauxna! (it's easy to forget in all the excitement) I did take the two I-864's and handed them the one that gave $0.00 amount for my income (that's what it said on the 'total income' line on my tax return after subtracting the result of the 2555 from my income to give me $0.00. That seemed to be what they were looking for because he didn't ask me to submit a revised one (I had the other one ready to hand over). I think it's more of a formality for the petitioner who is also living abroad because usually they don't have any US income that will continue when they move back home.
