Hi, I am posting for the first time on this forum. I just applied for the fiance visa on January 21st for my fiance in Piura, Peru to come to the US. I have read other posts and I noticed people are saying that it's pretty important for both people to go to the interview in Lima. I don't know if it is possible for me to do this though because I will be starting a new job as an instructor at a college this fall and it would look bad for me to take time off in the very beginning. But I'm afraid if I don't go, we will be declined because we don't have much evidence other than about 6 pictures, e-mails, and my receipt of my plane ticket from going down there. I was wondering how long I should plan to stay in Lima if I do go to the interview. Is it usually just a one-day thing or do they ask you to keep coming back with different forms? Please write back soon. Thanks, Sara.

Hi Sara,

The interview is a one day event barring any delays. From there it usually takes a few days to receive the visa in the mail. Depending on the day of the week I would take a 4 day weekend if possible, but i fly from the midwest and connect through miami. I would not go as far as purchasing tickets for your fiance since you really do not know how long it will take to receive the Visa in the mail. Piura is pretty far north. Not sure when you plan on having your fiance travel to the states, but I hope this does help. One favor and I realize you just joined, but could you update your timeline with the date you sent your 129f and received your NAO1? It really helps everyone out. Good luck and here's to a quick K1!!! Happy V-Day too!

I'm travelling to Brazil (in 3 weeks!!!) to attend the interview in Rio with my fiance. I'll be staying for 10 days. He has to have his medical exam there so we're arriving a few days before the interview. Then we need to stay a few days afterwards in order to pick up the visa.
Also, we do want to enjoy Rio a bit together.
I was nervous about my job because I'm taking 8 days off but my co-workers assured me this is important smile.gif and I need to take some time off to handle business smile.gif. (Oh yea, and I do have the personal days available)
Good luck.

ps: I LOVE Lima!

Thanks for all your advice. We have just gotten started with the visa, so I have no idea when the interview will be. I love this website though. I'm learning a lot from it. Thanks again. Sara

Hi Sara,

When we had the interview back in Apr 2005, I was required to have my fiance present... so we had to go back together... he bought a plane ticket and flew the week after that, he flew 30 hours total(back and forth) and stayed in Lima only 40 hours... it was an exhausting trip for him!! He flew down wednesday morning, arrived to Lima around midnight... we went to the embassy on thursday morning and he flew back friday night... I think all they wanted to see was taht he made the effort to be there.

I know the rules have changed... again that was back in Apr 05... you might want to get in touch with people who have just gone through the interview so you know which type of evidence they brought and if they did require the USC to be present... every case is different and it is hard to set a rule for it.

Good luck!!! smile.gif

Feel free to post here with all your questions and concerns. Many of us have been through this and are very willing to help. The interview process takes a few hours, and if approved, the visa will be delivered via DHL in 2-3 days. It's recommended that the USC attend the interview at the Embassy in Peru, but many have succeeded on their own.

Buena suerte!!
