Hi everyone,
Our petition has just been approved and we are waiting to email the NVC with the Choice of agent. We are also getting together all the documents we need.
Does the police certificate need to be sent to the NVC or do we just keep it until the consulate interview? I am asking this because I will not be returning Australia until earl May so I cannot apply for a police certificate until then. We do not want to hold up the process if the NVC needs this certificate in the next 3 mths.

Police certificate is brought to the interview at the consulate.

Hi,
I'm not sure which state you are from in Aust. but most of the Police Departments will allow you to download an online form to request a police certificate so you should be able to apply for one while you are still in the U.S. Victorian Police will allow you to do this and I know the Queenland Police will allow you to telephone from overseas to request a form. So you can get the process happening before you return to the Australia!

We needed our police certificates at our interviews.
Not at the NVC stage.

I was going to ask this question too, I know when I had a K1 interview the police certificate was required at the interview but not quite sure what the CR1 requirement is?

Police certificate is a requirement for DS230 packet. You need to send a copy of your police certificate to NVC when they asked for it. Then bring the original to the interview

ok, I checked online for the forms I would need. There are two available certificates 1. a simple name check and 2. name and finger prints check.
I am assuming I would need the second one. But I don't want to return home for a few days to get my finger prints taken. What a hassle that would be!! Can some one please tell me their experience back in OZ?

You should only need the name check. When I applied for mine from the Victorian Police (using the online form), there was a box to tick to indicate what the police certificate was required for so they know which one to send you, and there was a specific option for "visa" - the certificate I was supplied with was just the name check.

SORRY ... incorrect info. Apparently you DO need the fingerprint check now as well - I just had to get mine today. The information says to contact the Australian Federal Police if you are overseas:

Thanks for the info everyone.
Jen&Aaron,
How long did it take you to receive your finger print check or do they send it to the Consulate?
