Hey, I was trying to persuade my fiance to fly into JFK (after he gets approved and all) to try to get the Temp EAD stamp, but how long is this good for? We will go get married probably within the first week of him here. Does it just expire after a certain time or does it get cancelled out once we get married and apply for the AOS and EAD? Flying through JFK is looking to be more expensive and much more hassle (having to deal with 4 airports!), so if it's going to be cancelled out as soon as we get married, there is no point in even trying. Anyone know?

It is good for 90 days. It doesn`t get cancelled when you apply for the AOS.

It's good for 90 days.

Until the expiration date on the I-94, 90 days.

It is actually arguable technically, but it is excepted for 90 days so that is all that really matters.

Practically you will most likely also need a SSN which will take a few weeks, and then of course after the 90 days there will be a gap before the EAD comes through.

So, if someone flies in to JFK they can get a temporary work permit? And it's good for 90 days? Wow! That's Great! But when they go to get their SSN what documents are they required to show in order to get their SSN? Just the stamp on their passport and their K-1 visa? I've just now found this UK board so I'm trying to catch up on all the info. Thanks.

Theoretically, the temp EAD and passport with visa (both have photos) should be adequate.

However, it may take up to 45 days (half of the POE-issue EAD term) to get it.

As for whether it is essential, the couple should weigh the costs (inconvenience of going through JFK, possibility of missing/altered connexions--some which go from LA GUARDIA OR NEWARK, possible extra cost). Especially when Limey K-1's have the option of going through the Immigration-only PFI's at Dublin or Shannon (Ireland).

D & I have decided that when it's time for him to fly here, he'll go into JFK. Hopefully he'll get the stamp and they won't have stopped it by then.

I'm going to take the train up and meet him...we'll go to the Statue of Liberty. We'll knock around for a few days in NYC, it'll be so much fun!

He was all for it! But I think it's partially cos he wants to go to the Kwik Stop in Red Bank, NJ and to also go to Jay & Silent Bob's Secret Stash, cos he's a Kev Smith geek.

If they stop the stamp, then he'll just fly into Orlando.
