I don't know about you, but my husband has never been on a plane. I don't know if he'll be able to relax or get any sleep during the flight. My plan is to meet him at the POE and go to a full service hotel or a B&B.

Mine has flown before a few times, so he's familiar with it-- but I know he will not sleep. He'll also be extremely uncomfortable because he's pretty tall.

This was a nice thread before you guys decided to derail it. I'll go back to the topic. You can continue to judge me in ways you don't like to be judged. I'm your nonchalant target for the evening, and on.

Have fun!

grrr we can go to Taco bell but not KFC? oh lord.. there goes my Hot wings.

Well I can't vouch for that source really, but it makes sense to me about the vegetarian things? KFC chicken is not halal (or shouldn't be). And if KFC ever contracts from tyson? Then DEFINATELY not halal. This is where tyson is based, and I can tell you--since I see what everyone is eating go by me every day.. and I knwo a lot of tyson workers? They eat feed made from other chickens and are not killed in a halal way. Some epople don't care about that and some do, it's just up to preference smile.gif I'm not all about starting a "you're not really being halal" thing with anyone! LOL! Because? not muslim. Only interested in what to feed my DH. Actually vegetarian. Not interested in meat of any kind, even halal smile.gif I have Muslim friends who go across the spectrum of eating so I just kinda shrug my shoulders and say "meh?" and let people do what they want!

For those whose So's don't like sweets.. one things I found my Dh really loved was tacos!!!! And homemade tacos are sooo easy and quick. Check out the shells you use to make sure they don't contain lard (most shells are not halal, I buy vegan ones to just get out of it) and away you go!

Take this from a Mexican you can make your own shells! What is better than fresh vs off the shelf taco shells? They are super easy and quick to do! To do so buy CORN TORTILLAS they are usually made and packaged that day. Warm up a good amount of cooking oil when its nice and hot dip in a tortilla after a few seconds take a fork and fold the corn tortilla in half. Keep the fork in the middle so the tortilla sides wont stick. Let one side crisp then flip the tortilla shell on its other side and let that crisp too. You can make the shells as crispy or as lite crisp as you want.=0) Then you can stuff with your what ever you want from chicken to guacamole or shredded beef or fajitas. Yum.

which says yes, if you get the "right" things (listed in their opening).

I just read the postings on this link, I highly recommend to avoid all the recommendations! LOL.

From the Taco Bell website: they do not use lard in any food preparation, not even in the beans (this is true of most any chain these days). The sour cream does contain gelatin.

I don't dislike anybody here persay but what I don't like is when somebody intentionally posts things in a thread that they know for sure is going to cause problems. Then when problems don't arise, they get more and more nasty until someone finally pipes up. THEN, they get all defensive when people have finally had enough and get mad about it. We have seen this exact same argument over and over again in thread after thread after thread. We all saw the initial posts that started this and we understood from the beginning that the intentions were set on getting a certain type of response. Why is it that people feel the need to come in and try to see how long it takes before they get negative feedback? Do they think we are all stupid and don't see what is happening? I don't know about everyone else but I know I'm not that naive... BEKAFFEY NIQASH BYZANTE!!! Seriously!!
I used to have a lot of respect for certain people here and I really appreciated their advice on certain subjects. Lately, I'm beginning to lose that respect since they seem to find pride in causing a negative uproar everywhere they go without any care of who they hurt and how they hurt them.
Too bad we all have to read through this stuff just to try to help with the original topic.
Ok..Enough with my soap box... I hope this issue can be resolved in an adult manner.

Thanks

Amal, there has been plenty of joking about fornication, hedonism, gross and abnormal by certain people (Sarah has this under her avatar), and so on. It's a joke when they do it, and no one says a thing until certain OTHER people do what they do.

Sorry, that's the truth and that's why nothing they say bothers me.

I didn't read into it very far! So good thing!

Meat is not chicken in the MENA, even though it is here. My gall bladder doesn't work. So? I tend to avoid meat, oil, etc. Point being I told me Dh I was vegetarian, and so he said, OK, you do not eat meat.. then kept trying to feed me chicken forever until after enough vomiting and passing out-- he finally got the clue I can't eat it either!! Not every day at least. And peanuts1 That was an event and a half. Anyway, he learned the hard way that when i say i don't eat something, I actually mean it.

I think it's just whether or not you stick to halal meat--slaughtering methods and animals eating other animals-- or not. That's why i said it kinda varies from person to person as to which they will accept (I don't actually care what people accept or not LOL!) People argue that chickens are not slaughtered in halal methods in these places, and that the feed of chicken to other chickens invalidates their halal-ness (new word!). I asked my Dh and he said he would rather play it safe than sorry. I said "whatever" and kinda left it at that. smile.gif

I have to agree with Rahma (at least that's whom I think I wrote it). My husband was SO exhausted and relieved by the time I picked him up at the airport. All he wanted to do was to come home and just crash. There is a lot of stress that some of these guys experience. It could be the first time flying, going through immigration and not knowing what to expect, wondering if they can find the connecting flight, possible flight delays, etc. It truly is a lot. Just be supportive! I put up a welcome home banner and got him a few things to eat I knew he would like. However, adjusting to American food was hard for him.

As for all the other parts of the discussion, I just want people to know the IGNORE button is USELESS!!!! You still see the quotes other people post of the ignored person's rantings.

I will say that this post was not directly insinuating anything against you. I'm sure there are many people here who may think this post was directed at them. If you took it to be an attack against you, that was not necessarily the case. I was speaking in general of anybody who enjoys stirring up the pot. Chicken should be killed in a certain way to be halal, but there are exceptions to halal killing. Quran 5:5 says that the food of the people of the Book is halal to eat. Another hadith says that if it has not been killed in an halal manner, but it is what you have, say "Bismillah" over it to make it permissible. Allah seeks to make many things easy.

I know this is a bit up thread by now, but I wanted to comment on alcohol and cooking, my husband is a recovering alcoholic (three years on Friday!), so I do a lot of label reading and recipe adjusting. It's surprising how much alcohol is actually retained when cooking/baking, so if your SO refrains from alcohol, avoid using any. Here is a chart that shows how much remains after varies cooking times/methods. It's also surprising what actually as alcohol in it; I had no idea that most cooking sprays contained alcohol.

Right and you are the poster child for making VJ more comfortable for people. The only person that imposes double standards is you, which has been pointed out again and again. By the way you slam people quite often.

jp, your continual "outrage" is making you look rather guilty of this yourself. whistling.gif

I will say that this post was not directly insinuating anything against you. I'm sure there are many people here who may think this post was directed at them. If you took it to be an attack against you, that was not necessarily the case. I was speaking in general of anybody who enjoys stirring up the pot. I don't appreciate anybody who does what I have discussed. It makes for a very uncomfortable time in VJ.
I will post more after praying..Noor is waiting for me

I'm sure that's true, and it is one of the things that irritate me too, along with the double standard about who can be mocked. Every once in a while when you've seen the slams for a time, it's hard to say nothing, tho.

Pot - Kettle.

I didn't intend to cause any problems. If it was calm before my last post, I do apologize..when I initially started the post, I was on page 11...When I finnished the post..there were like 4 or 5 more pages that had been written. Didn't mean to stir up anything that had been settled already.

Amal,

I didn't intend to quote you in that post. It was inadvertent and I didn't realize I had done it until I just read your post. My apologies rose.gif (Trying to work, chat and post at the same time doesn't work).
