Just want to make a thread were people can comment on there experiences with the india US conuslate and/ or the whole K-1 process
My first question to break the ice is...
does anybody know about how long it takes Mumbai US consulate to send out packet 3 to the SO once they have recieved it from the NVC????
My fiance went through Mumbai. As you can see in my signature, Packet 3 was sent within 3 days of the consulate receiving our file. I think this generally goes fairly quick. However they sent a completely wrong packet. I e-mailed the consulate about this and was instructed to go to their web-site and download Packet 3. There really is no reason to not do this. You can start on your paperwork much quicker.
Packet 4 is also on their site. He was scheduled for an interview very quickly after I sent an e-mail asking why he was not on the December schedule. Again he downloaded Packet 4 so he could get this final stuff completed before having to turn it in at the VFS office. Since his interview was scheduled so quickly we were lucky they attached his interview letter along with the e-mail stating his interview date.
One thing I will say about Mumbai. It might be considered a slow place in issuing interviews, but their web-site is fantastic! Here is a link for the Visa Forms and Packets
http://mumbai.usconsulate.gov/ivforms.html We were able to complete all the paperwork and read in detail what is needed from there site. I have looked at other embassy/consulate web-sites in hopes to help someone else who has these kinds of questions and so far have not seen anything with as much good information as Mumbai's. Most of them I do not think are very helpful at all.
I also had very good luck in receiving responses to my e-mails. As my fiance went for his interview they did tell him they receive more e-mails than you can imagine and they only respond to the ones that seem "important". I know we all think our e-mails are "important". Please just keep this in mind if you e-mail them. I tried to keep it relatively short, but was certain to give all the details I felt were necessary. And of course I clearly identified my topic in my subject line.
Good luck to everyone. We had success and I know it can be done. Another person posted how having all your paperwork in order is one key to success with Mumbai. I completely agree with that. My fiance may have thought I was overdoing it a little, but I was very thorough. I don't think I was excessive. I just followed what their instructions stated in both Packet 3 & 4.
I also will admit I am glad there are more and more people posting about their experiences in India. When we first started this journey I did so much reading of previous posts. It can do nothing but help everyone right now at this time and also help future VJers!
Again good luck!
