Just want to make a thread were people can comment on there experiences with the india US conuslate and/ or the whole K-1 process

My first question to break the ice is...

does anybody know about how long it takes Mumbai US consulate to send out packet 3 to the SO once they have recieved it from the NVC????
ManuNSam
hi

i didnt go through mumbai and i also applied via DCF
however, on the mumbai website they have the packet available for download.
you might want to ask one of the other guys if the packet online is the same one you get in the mail.

if you search one of the other india threads youll find Raj. he just went through mumbai and would beable to tell you.

I'm marrying a Brazilian so I'm sorry if I shouldn't be responding here. innocent.gif
I just wanted to say good luck. My best friends are Indian and one of them is getting married in India tomorrow (although they live in NYC). I received the wedding invitation in the mail yesterday and it's the most beautiful invitation I've ever received! I'd LOVE to be able to go, but since my fiance's interview is next month and I'm going to that I can't go to India.

I hope your process is fast and smooth. good.gif

Hi! I recognize you from other posts. yes.gif We’ll be going through Chennai but are still waiting for life after RFE, so can't give you personal experience info. However I have snooped around the Timelines and it seems the timing of the Mumbai Consulate sending out Packet 3 varies from less than a week to over a month! With 10-15 days being average. As usual, timings in this journey are mostly individual. I’d say start bugging them in a few more days. You’ll probably get packet 3 pretty soon. Good luck for speedy rest of the journey - hope our petition gets to India soon too! good.gif

Which embassy are you going through? I'm doing a CR/IR1 visa so can't help you with the specific question. However, the link below is for the Mumbai consulate. There should a a e-mail or telephone number you can contact to get information on the status of your case. From the Mumbai website, there is a link to the Delhi, Chennai, and Kolkata embassy's/consulates

http://mumbai.usconsulate.gov/

Good luck

Go to "Embassy Info" (on top of this page); click on "I" for India. Under India, you will find the option "Find all VisaJourney Members from India". Click on it - 32 pages of us! Start clicking on the member's names and "View Member Profile". You can send PMs if you want to get in touch with people. I looked around a couple of times and found that some of them never posted, or didn’t update timelines.

Welcome, neighbor! biggrin.gif I did a quick search and your Embassy isn't even in there, so I guess there's no way of searching for even inactive members from Nepal?! You gotta put it in after your interview! good.gif

My fiance went through Mumbai. As you can see in my signature, Packet 3 was sent within 3 days of the consulate receiving our file. I think this generally goes fairly quick. However they sent a completely wrong packet. I e-mailed the consulate about this and was instructed to go to their web-site and download Packet 3. There really is no reason to not do this. You can start on your paperwork much quicker.

Packet 4 is also on their site. He was scheduled for an interview very quickly after I sent an e-mail asking why he was not on the December schedule. Again he downloaded Packet 4 so he could get this final stuff completed before having to turn it in at the VFS office. Since his interview was scheduled so quickly we were lucky they attached his interview letter along with the e-mail stating his interview date.

One thing I will say about Mumbai. It might be considered a slow place in issuing interviews, but their web-site is fantastic! Here is a link for the Visa Forms and Packets http://mumbai.usconsulate.gov/ivforms.html We were able to complete all the paperwork and read in detail what is needed from there site. I have looked at other embassy/consulate web-sites in hopes to help someone else who has these kinds of questions and so far have not seen anything with as much good information as Mumbai's. Most of them I do not think are very helpful at all.

I also had very good luck in receiving responses to my e-mails. As my fiance went for his interview they did tell him they receive more e-mails than you can imagine and they only respond to the ones that seem "important". I know we all think our e-mails are "important". Please just keep this in mind if you e-mail them. I tried to keep it relatively short, but was certain to give all the details I felt were necessary. And of course I clearly identified my topic in my subject line.

Good luck to everyone. We had success and I know it can be done. Another person posted how having all your paperwork in order is one key to success with Mumbai. I completely agree with that. My fiance may have thought I was overdoing it a little, but I was very thorough. I don't think I was excessive. I just followed what their instructions stated in both Packet 3 & 4.

I also will admit I am glad there are more and more people posting about their experiences in India. When we first started this journey I did so much reading of previous posts. It can do nothing but help everyone right now at this time and also help future VJers!

Again good luck!

Lori

FINALLY! Whoo hoo! That too TOO long! I tried to skip the NVC but Chennai wrote back that they don't open a Provincial file, have to wait till they receive it from the NVC. sad.gif

Ok...things changed....his travel agent thought he said May not March and completely messed up the travel arrangements.....I won't go into details about how ticked off he was......well it got fixed (not by the same agent thank goodness!!) but instead of March 11th I have to wait until March 16th....but that is only 5 more days....I think I can live with that - especially compared to May 11th!!

You can track your package at dhl.com, just type in search by correspondance with the nvc area code and it will show you all the packeges sent out from NVC, then you can see your package going to mumbai ( you need to know the date NVC mailed it to Mumbai)

I am glad it's sorted out,
lak&ajm
Here is a link to a topic I used as reference back while I was waiting http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...l=tracking++nvc . The main thing is you will not necessarily know the date it was sent, but you can possibly get a close idea. Believe me I tracked and tracked and tracked!! Ours was sent very quickly and received just a few days later - note my signature.

Throughout this link there is some good information as to the type of petition and what to use with DHL. Ultimately it is a guessing game, but think positive thoughts that it will get there quickly!

Good luck!!

Lori

Well, I was expecting our case to be scheduled for an interview in April. Today, I reviewed the Mumbai consulate website to see if our case was scheduled.. our case was not on the list crying.gif

Any suggestions on what I can do? Do you think it's worth calling/e-mailing the consulate to see if they can add our case to the schedule?

Nikita2Charles
It's worth a try you can always send them an email inquiry about the status of your case, when you might get an interview.

I'm a little confused about what you’re asking? If you are asking how long the PCC (Police Clearance Certificate) is valid, I believe it is for one year (throughout India). So if you get the PCC now, it will be valid until March 2008.

I understand from the website instructions that if the passport is issued within 6 months, you only need to get a PCC from the passport office. If it is over 6 months, then you need to get a PCC both from passport office and from the local police station.

Shosurplussales,

I noticed you have an interview date for the month of May. Can I aks when you received conformation from the embassy, and which embassy you are going through?

I'm going through the Mumbai embassy. They have our case since early March, and we have not received any information from them at all. We are doing a CR1 visa.

Thanks
