I am interested in hearing about what you all personally do for a living.....enough about the SO's.....everything's ALWAYS about them...LOL.....this one's for us tongue.gif

Obviously no one is obligated to answer and if you work an "If I told you I'd have to kill you" job than please don't share....I've already had ENOUGH problems with the government laughing.gif

So as not to be hypocritical I will share first......

I was in the U.S. Navy for 6 years working as a Russian Linguist but because the Cold War has been over since I was in diapers the job was pretty dull and I started getting seriously bored around year 5. They needed general intelligence people to volunteer for work in Iraq, so since I had a security clearance I raised my hand. That's where I met the SO and blah blah blah you all know that story......

After being booted from the military I moved to Amman, Jordan and persued a career as a Journalist. I was hired to write for Living Well Magazine in Amman last summer and wrote their feature article for last August's issue. It was a human interest piece based on the Lebanese refugees who were fleeing to Jordan to escape the violence between Israel/Hezbollah last summer. Shortly after I completed the piece I discovered I was pregnant and returned to the U.S.

Now I works as a writer for a small town newspaper near my home - not as exciting as some of my previous assignments but I still love it. It is flexible and since I will be having the baby in about six weeks it is perfect.

Ok.....enough about me....I want to know about you all....TELL TELL biggrin.gif
doodlebug
Wow I'm excited that you're a writer 'cause I really LOVE reading your posts!! You have a great personality and tell it like it is! lol

I started off in Public Accounting and quit that the nanosecond that I got my CPA license since the hours and travel were just plain brutal. From there I went to a small healthcare facility working as a senior accountant. Then I went on to be the Director of Accounting for a major hospital system in my area and since then I've jumped within the company to internal audit for a few years and then back to accounting but for our segment that only deals in nursing home facilities. I had a one year hiatus where I quit and went to work for internal audit for a major university here but as many know I just quit that and will soon be back to the healthcare company in the nursing home finance job that I had, but with a nicer deal. (it pays to leave and come back I guess! good.gif )

On a side note, sometimes I wonder what position I would be if I didn't have children. For two years of my career I worked part time and thereafter there have always been limitations on what I can do because let's face it, a single mom of two children cannot work the 70 hours a week it takes to make it to the top. I don't regret having my children at all since they are my life and I love them with all my heart and soul but there is a wee little part of me in the back of my mind that sometimes thinks about how it has shaped where I'm at professionally today.

I got my bachelor's degree in chemistry. I went into a Ph.D. program in chemistry and was doing well, but realized it wasn't what I wanted to do. So...I left the program and became a high school chemistry teacher. Eight years later, I am now a high school PHYSICS teacher and absolutely love it! (I never thought I would end up teaching physics. I LOVE chemistry, but sometimes get frustrated teaching something that it fairly intuitive to me. I was scared a little when my school first asked me to teach physics three years ago, but I love all the cool labs we get to do and how we get to talk about how everything works. -- BTW...we had fun making guitars this past week!)

I have had the same career for 12 years. I sell flooring to retail customers, commercial buildings and new construction houses. I not only help select the flooring, but also do the actual measure of the property for sizes and amounts. Because I online all the time, I am now training to use my laptop for commercial estimating. (my work thought I was really doing 'work' at my desk, i am really on vj whistling.gif ).
I love my job. I read somewhere, if you do what you love, you will never work a day in your life. I like it like that.

d 2 da oodle, I have a suggestion for you. Lay a warm damp towel over the spot for a few minutes to loosen. Then try to clean with a little white vinegar and water. Be sure to dry well. If there is a spot still, you might need to get it refinished, not an entire sand & stain, but a recoating. Another idea, try covering it with a nice area rug wink.gif

Next question?

Jackie rose.gif
oh oh ask me how to get black candle wax out of white carpet

Try a commercial strength grout cleaner at HomeDepot. If that doesn't work, try to dye it a shade darker.

Awesome post! I was going to post this as my next question actually... you beat me to it!:D

I am a professional chef. I went to school to study professionally and have been cooking in resorts, spas, restaurants, and now am currently a private chef. I actually prefer being in restaurants/resorts so I think any time now I will quit and make the move back to what I really love! Being a private chef is not all its cracked up to be. Rude, snotty, cheap, and demanding clients who like to eat boring food have been my experience so far. wink.gif

I plan to either open my own restaurant someday or open a bed and breakfast (riad) with a restaurant inside! Then once that is successful become the next Ben and Jerrys (with different a twist) jest.gif I can't wait!!!!!!!

I am a "jack of many trades, master of none!" tongue.gif . Truly, tho, I am a retired hairdresser, platform artist & educator for a line of hair care - got burned out on that then went into coffee slinging in the French Quarter in New Orleans at a high brow coffee shop, moved to NY to "find myself" and worked as a receptionist in a high end salon (where they kept begging me to become a stylist - NO THANKS!) and then a publishing company. Then decided on my true passion and did some of my training while in NY then moved home where I could afford the schooling a little better. So, for the last 15 years I have been a licensed esthetician and massage therapist - 3 years in a day spa, now on my own in private practice. About 10 years ago I found another passion in dance and became a professional bellydancer (after some years of classes). I now teach & perform weekly and I love it so much! Soooooooooo..... all that to say: I am a massage therapist and esthetician by day, dancer by night! I am also a student of life! cool.gif

Hope to get something more challenging soon – been giving job applications everyday but no luck so far. crying.gif

In general I can't stand what most consider "beauty products", mostly because I can't stand the smell of all the stuff.
However, the one thing I did recently buy was by Aveda and it's called Beautifying Composition. When I had my hair cut a month or so ago, I went to a new lady and she used this stuff to rub into my hair and scalp and it was really great for my hair and the smell was tolerable. smile.gif

I am a RN. I was an E/R trauma nurse in a large hospital in North Mississippi for 10 years. I also was a flight nurse on a medical helicopter for 3 years. While visiting a local museum in my town, I fell through a porch of a log cabin that is an exhibit on the museum grounds. I severely injured my back and neck and had a terrible surgery and rehabilitation. I am somewhat put back together but live most days with pain. I have good and bad days. So now I am disabled with a bad back and do not work anymore. I was good at what I did and I miss it sooo much. crying.gif

I know it sounds funny tongue.gif When I was writing it I was trying to find a better way to put it but just couldn't think of one offhand.
I have a serious issue with scents. In general, they completely clog up my sinuses making it difficult to breathe, give me headaches and make me nauseated. Sooo.... when something is "tolerable" it's actually a good thing!!! laughing.gif
But yeah, they probably shouldn't have me as a spokesperson.

You have really bad allergies!! I love flowers and planting them in my garden to have nice blooming plants is sooooooooooo nice . . . but I get sick from allergies after working in my garden (not to mention the backaches). I have been re-assessing the use of many scented products and have gone the route of getting unscented laundry detergent and drier sheets . . . but it is hard to give up everything. Now I think I'll go light a nice scented candle . . .who knows how long I'll be able to use those!!! crying.gif

Aveda does have a line called "All Sensitive" It is fragrance free. It is great for allergies, sensitive skin, or those who don't like alot of fragrance. They have hair and skin products in that line.

What an impressive team we have here. I certainly do not have a high profile job like some of you, but I have the best job in the world. I work for a group of hematolgy/oncology physicians. I am responsible for off site testing and authorizations. Basically, I schedule procedures for our patients that we do not do in the office. As we administer chemotherapy, I get to know all of the patients so very well. Some are with us every single day of the week. We become family. We laugh with them, cry with them, watch them go from sick to well, and some we can only offer hopes of comfort as they leave this world. I have been in the oncology field for 5 years. I love it. If I could stand the site of blood, I swear I would be an oncology nurse. But, as the site of blood and the thought of sticking a person with a needle makes me pass out, I would suck at nursing. So, I am happiest at my job. I get all of the benefits, with none of the blood.
