Okay. Does anyone here know of a good, online store that sells British chocolate? I am sick to death of Hershey's. It tastes, quite frankly, like it was deposited on the floor by a camel. whistling.gif

Even the Cadbury's sold over here in supermarkets is made by Hershey's, it just isn't the same.

Any help, suggestions and information would be greeted with eternal gratitude from moi. I'll even give ya a hug and kiss, though it'd be of the non sexual kind of course! laughing.gif

Sadly the best we can find to replace good chocolate, is the lindt white chocolate, and dove chocolates. Wal-Mart (if you can stand the place) carries their own brand of belgian chocolate bars that Tim claims are very good. Meijer typically has galaxy bars, and Fresh Market has Guylian chocolates. Just some ideas for you.

As the USC I agree Hersheys taste like yuck and smell like vomit!

They have stores all over the place. Its much cheaper than the mail order "Brit" Shoppes.

Would the CANUCK version work?

Canadian Favourites Chocolates

(FYI, it does NOT taste like it was made by Cursey's; if not satisfied, you can always buy Nielsen products instead).

Thank you. I've never tried the Canadian equivalent. May give it a go!

Hey Mags! Do you have Paypal? If you do, find a buddy who does as well, transfer some cash over and have someone send you some....or is it more that you want it NOW or sooner??? hehehehe. I guess that was a bit daft as I'm sure you have people in England who could send you some if you wanted to wait that long! Hope you go on your road trip tomorrow!!! laughing.gif M.

http://shop.ghirardelli.com/?gclid=CPjk7KC...CFTzqJAodj2jamA try that for fine American chocolate.

As America's longest continuously operating chocolate manufacturer, Ghirardelli has established its position as America's premium chocolate company for more than 150 years.

We are one of very few American manufacturers that make chocolate starting from the cocoa bean through to finished products. Throughout the process, we take special steps to ensure that our premium chocolate delivers our signature intense, smooth-melting chocolate taste.
  • Intensive quality assurance in the selection of cocoa beans means that Ghirardelli accepts only the highest-quality beans. We reject as many as 40% of the beans that are offered to us. Beans that are not selected are sold to other manufacturers.
  • In all of its chocolate product, Ghirardelli uses a proprietary blend of cocoa beans that has been refined over the company's 150-year history to provide the company's distinct and intense chocolate taste.
  • Ghirardelli roasts the cocoa beans in-house to ensure the company's signature flavor profile is consistently maintained in all chocolate products. We also use a different roasting process whereby we remove the shell first and then roast the small nibs inside. Because the nibs are fairly uniform in size, we have more control over the temperature and time, so we can get a more specific flavor. Other companies roast their beans before removing the shell, which requires over-roasting the outside portion of the bean in order to roast the inside. This could impart a burned flavor to their chocolate.
  • Finally, Ghirardelli uses an intensive refining process to ensure that its chocolate truly melts in your mouth! Ghirardelli has no grainy feel because we refine most of our chocolate flakes until they are 19 microns (human hair is 100 microns in diameter). Other mass market chocolates are refined to only 40 microns.

I normally try World Market. Luckily, the Kroger at the end of the road has been revamped and is slowly starting English foods. So far, we only have Bounty in the choc section.

There's a guy in the next town over from us who has a store that mainly does online ordering, but has the store as well. I popped in there with plans to buy TONS of stuff and enjoy future visits. Unfortunately, he was rude and didn't even want to make conversation. So, I left and he's lost out on alot of $$$!

Also, I'd NEVER seen the UK stuff before in Kroger. I would just look in the "International" or "Mexican Foods" isle and it's there. Very small section.

I got my wife addicted to Mint Aeros. On my last trip to the UK (a couple of months ago) I brough back 2 packs of "snack size" and one huge bar. I'm happy to say the huge bar is still unopened. Its an addiction, but who knows the next time I can fulfill her order!

Love World Market too! good.gif

One of the best perks of my husbands job at the Canadian Embassy is that he is able to get all sorts of Cadbury and Nestle that I haven't eaten since I last visited the UK.

This thread is making me very hungry though. Crap, now I need to go find some Hob Nobs.

Sigh, if only Costplus would open in Pennsylvania. Sadly I think PA's rather arcane laws regarding alcohol sales means they're in no hurry to open here. sad.gif

Still at least I have Wegmans and its "British" section.

Wegmans in Erie, pa sucks butt for its "british" collection and in my town the world foods section consists of " mexican and chinese unsure.gif

That was the only place when I first arrived that I could find Heinz Beans and we ALL know Beanz Meanz Heinz plus I got ambrosia custard and treacle and Branston Pickle so I wish theyed open a branch a bit closer to us.
cheeky^Wolf
Shop n Save around the Pittsburgh area have Heinz baked beans made in Middlesex! They also have Ryvita made in the UK.

Aldi does sell good chocolate. Better than Hershey's anyway.

I have the worst craving for pickled onions and a lump of strong cheddar right now. I'm even considering learning how to pickle them.

Ahhh 7 more weeks and all the cravings can be fulfilled.

I'm very sad to hear that! My Wegmans's has just recently started carring a strange, ecclectic variety of British items in sections all over the store! There is no "International" section per se, but on the shelves I can find things such as PG Tips, Birds Custard, and HP Sauce. Wegman's is usually good for taking "requests" so I may just ask for Small Chunk Branston Pickle!

It sounds like you're fairly close to me (I'm in Buffalo) so if you're ever up this way and want to have a VJ meet up I'd love it!!!!!
