Hey folks,
There have been several great write-ups of the Vancouver consulate, so I won't repeat details. Just thought I would add a couple tips:
1. VERY IMPORTANT!!! When you arrive, there will most likely be several signs with visa times (9:00, 9:30, etc.) and lots of people lined up behind the signs. DON'T wait in the line; instead go straight to the door. When the guard notices you, he/she will ask why you are there. When you explain it is for a K visa, they whisk you into security. We arrived at 9:30 for our 10 am appointment (were taking SkyTrain and wanted to make sure we allowed enough time for travel). We waited in the line for about 15 minutes before I remembered that I had read somewhere in some post to bypass the signs.
2. If you have any paperwork in a sealed envelope, unseal it before entering the consulate EXCEPT the medical info. That MUST remain sealed. My fiance had court records both mailed and Fed Exed to him. We opened the Fed Ex packet (had received that first) and filed the records in the appropriate section in my accordian file. We then just put the regular mail sealed envelope in the file as well, knowing it was a copy of the court records but not bothering to open it. When the security guard looked through my accordian files, she asked me to step outside of the consulate and open the envelope.
3. This has been said before, but I cannot stress enough how wonderful those accordian files are. Made it so easy to find the appropriate forms. There was another K-1 there at the same time. She didn't have her paperwork in files and had to thumb through looking for everything.
Good luck everyone who has upcoming interviews! They really are nice in the Vancouver consulate.
