Do you have pay off your credit cards once you leave the country?
I know that if you are a citizen with Israel and become a US citizen you do not loose your citizenship with Israel. I believe you are allowed to have double citizenship and it's only with Israel. Since he'll be a citizen of both countries ( hopefully) should he still pay off his credit cards?
Thanks

You obviously will have to answer the moral question... and from the legal side imagine it is different from country to country. For me, I believe the only requirement is that she have no unpaid obligations to the government.

There is no VISA issue with his debts. Of course, you should always pay your debts in accordance with the agreements, but his debts have nothing to do with receiving a VISA.

I still have my credit cards from Canada as well. I didn't have any balances owing when I moved to the U.S., but I did give them my U.S. address so they can send my statements whenever I do use them.

it kind of contradicts what you said. You said there is no visa issue, and then you said have nothing to do with receiving visa.

I think he meant that whether or not you pay your debt, has nothing to do with a visa being issued. Your debt is still your debt and your responsibility.

is this a case of confusing a visa credit card with a visa-for-entering-a-country?

There is no relationship between the debt of a beneficiary and his receipt of a visa.
That said, of course he should pay off any debt.

Same here. Now, I still have 1 credit card from Indonesia that I might use on emergency when I moved. I paid off balances before I moved and left money in my Indonesian bank account to cover any emergency use during the trip. My parents kept all the statement for me.

There is nothing contradictory in that sentence at all. Unless you are getting confused between 'Visa' (travel document your fiance will need to come to the US and marry you) and 'VISA' (a type of credit card on which he presumably might owe large amounts of money).

He should definately pay off his credit card debt. However, he doesn't have to pay it all off before he goes if he can't afford to. I'm sure he can make online payments, or set up an arrangement while he is in the states.

Your question was "Do you have pay off your credit cards once you leave the country?". The answer is "NO". I added that your debts are not a VISA issue, the debts have nothing to do with receiving a VISA or not. There's no contradiction there. I also added that if you have debts, you should continue to pay them as agreed.
Hey, getting a VISA is not a get out of debt free card. He will still owe all his creditors and they will still want their money. But from a VISA perspective, the Consulate is not checking his credit report, debt to income ratios and they don't care if he pays them or not.

I didn't cancel my credit cards in Canada and notified the holders of my US address. I have only renewed one since I moved here and let the others expire. I made sure the accounts were at a zero balance when I moved and have paid off any amount each month. I keep a Canadian visa and a Canadian bank account, primarily because it is easier for me when purchasing items in Canada to charge them to that account, then I can pay off the visa by transferring money from my Canadian account. Occasionally there are deposits to that account in Canada as well since I have a friend who purchases items on ebay but not all dealers will ship to Canada so she has the items sent to my address, I then fill out the custom forms and forward them to her, then she reimburses me the mailing costs by depositing money in my Canadian account. Regardless of where you live, if you have a credit card you are obligated to pay it off. If you don't pay it off, make sure you have the mechanism in place to pay on the account after you move.

If you make a debt you should pay the debt no matter where you go.

I paid off my one and only credit card from Russia and just let it expire

Just like all the others said - you probably don't have a legal obligation to pay off your credit card balances, but from the moral perspective you definitely should do it
