mike,

If you feel that showing the assets in your bank account is important to qualify you as a sponsor, the information that you have is generally accepted as adequate.

I'm not sure how much information the embassy will want to see, but I would think that if you have copies of all the bank statements that exist, that should be enough. However, they may want at least a year's worth of information. IN that case, did you have an account at some other bank prior to this one? And could you get a compilation or letter from them? Just a thought.

You can try e-mailing the consulate.
I sent an e-mail to the one in Rio and told them how much I earn and what I plan on bringing with me (W2s, tax returns, paystubs) and asked if I needed a letter. They said what I had was sufficient.
I have the letter from when I opened up my account but nothing else.
I'm not going to worry about it. You may not have to either - especially if you earn more than what the poverty guidelines state.
