Good luck!
Don't worry too much, they are very nice and friendly! We were asked how we met, what my fiance did for a living, and the CO made comments about the winter in Minnesota (he was from Texas, a very nice person, maybe mid-30s). We talked about the company we both work for (we were and still are colleagues). He chatted with my fiance about his travels to Asia, while I was just standing by. After a few minutes I was relaxing quite a bit and it wasn't the least scary any more.
They looked closely at the financial stuff, and the CO took a set of tax returns (originals) from my fiance, but I brought tons of pictures and emails and boarding passes etc. which he didn't even look at. Total interview took maybe 10 minutes, but the waiting almost killed me, I was so nervous! Nobody seemed to be interviewed much longer than that, from what I saw.
If you have an early morning appointment, be prepared to wait outside in the cold. They don't let people in much earlier than 7:45, from what I recall - dress warm!
Relax, you'll be just fine!
Carla
LOL, knowing that they are nice makes it a bit more relaxing! I get nervous when I deal with rude people because then I'm trying to figure out what they're really thinking.
OK, yeah, I figured that the financial stuff would be one of the things they really look at. I'm not worried about that at all. I have my fiance's employment letter, tax papers, bank statements, pay stubs, etc.
You sound like me, LOL ... I also have tons of pictures, boarding tickets, emails, etc.
How far in advance do you think I should be out there since my interview is at 7:30?
So are the consular officers actually American? That may be why they're nice. LOL ;-p
OK, one more question and then I will stop bugging you! I just read this:
"When you have gathered all the required items from the OF-169 (or UK/85) checklist, you will sign it and send the checklist to the Consulate. Do NOT send any of the listed items.....keep them for the interview. Hang on to the DS-156 and 156K application forms. Fill them out but do NOT sign them until the interview itself, as the signatures must be witnessed by the Consular official."I sent them the 156 application forms because my lawyer told me to ... and now I read on here that I should have been hanging on to them. Do you think that will affect anything? Im so worried about that.

Thank you for answering! So do you live in Minnesota?
