Ok, I didn't know where to put this, but I'm guessing you all might not yell at me I am really irked that all these men who want wives and go on dating sites and find women from Russia and Phillipines etc are clogging the visa process up and those of us who ACTUALLY love the person we are with have to wait even longer!!! I looked on one of those stupid sites and here's a paragraph I found on the first page:

The Russian woman's attitude about herself is feminine. She expects to be treated as a lady, she is the weaker gender and knows it. The Russian woman has not been exposed to the world of rampant feminism that asserts its rights in America.

WTF!!! If you believe that then move to Russia, dont bring her here! No offense to those who have met a SO from one of those countries and have a relationship. I just wish there was a seperate process for those who went out looking for a wife so we could get our fiance's here faster. Granted we have it easier than some other countries since our fiance speaks english and the flight is a lot cheaper so I shouldnt complain too much, but :-P Ok, thanks for letting me rant Hope we all get our visa's SUPER FAST!

I don't think you're going to get much support here for such ideas. True that 'mail order bride' cases may take a bit longer to adjudicate (more checks to do, etc), but the USCs still have the right to petition for the bride. If it is a sham relationship, then you've got to trust that the system will catch it.

I know of many couples here on VJ - both US/Filipina and US/Russia - that met both the traditional way, and the way you describe. Who are we to say who is and isn't in love?

Personally, I'm thankful that our system scrutinizes ALL of us. The immigration system in the UK, if you can call it that, is eventually going to strangle that country's infrastructure.

It must be wonderrful to know you are always right and perfect and not have any prejudices or bias or make generalizations.

1) just because someone is petitioning for a fiancee in Russia/Phillipines ect. doesnt make that person a mail order bride. Many people will take offense to that.

2) how do you know what feelings one person has to another? You are not the governing power that decides what love is legit, and what love is not.

3) If you want to complain about mail order brides, why not complain about how some of these poor women are married into abusive and manipulative marriages, and have no way out? Instead of being so selfish and inconsiderate by only thinking about yourself and how it slows down the visa process for you.

Who are you to suggest that people with partners from non-western countries are not in love with them?

You think there should be a 'separate process' for people who didn't 'go looking' for a wife?? Did your partner fall into your lap from the heavens? Looking down the pub as opposed to on the Internet doesn't make you a better person, you know.

This process has tested us all........live and let live.

Speaking without thinking gives a fair insight into the person's true beliefs and attitudes and I think she's expressed hers very clearly.

I've started calling my husband my 'mail order bride' now that he's immigrating to the States. It's in retaliation for all the times he called me his 'mail order bride' while I was going through the UK visa process years ago. Besides, he looks quite good in a dress.

I sent this guy 10000 bucks and I got this woman in the mail, but I was pissed-off because I thought it included the shipping and that was another 537 bucks!

(next time I'll specify a smaller woman so the shipping is cheaper)

I'm not really sure what to think about this post. I suppose all I have to say really is just because someone found the person they are going to marry through a dating site, it doesn't mean they don't love them. We are all human beings, it doesn't matter what country we come from, we all have to wait through this horrid visa process.

Amyone who goes through this process knows how sad and pathetic its is when people refer to our loved one as a "mail order bride". I used to get mad at people who did that, now I just laugh at them because they're so fracking stoopid.

her beef wasn't with residents of specific countries, it was with the providers of services aimed at matchmaking for the sake of marrying off women to men who want wives. not men who want this particular wife because they love, adore, respect, whatever, the woman as an individual. they just want A wife.

of course, there's a fine line of distinction between a marriage broker and an online dating service, or a matchmaking system meant to unite two people with similar interests in values who haven't yet found each other.

i think the interplay between economic philosophies, moral judgment, and public policy make this process fascinating. (of course, i'd like it as a scholarly pursuit more than something affecting, like, my life here, but whatever). think about it: when it comes to evidence, all the lovey-dovey sentiment in the world doesn't hold a candle to a boarding pass and a bank account. how "legitimate relationship" is that?

marriage - civil marriage - in this country is a contract. we don't have a national religion to sanctify it beyond that - it's just whatever the couple holds in their hearts as they stand in a church or city hall or a park or wherever.

i don't find the original question here to be outrageously offensive or that off-base. but we're a community of the raw-nerved.

i do hate to see people shamed into recanting an honest venting, though.

I think we've all had a vent or two about this process at some point in time.

Learning which ones are good for sharing with others, though, seems to be the finer point.

I'mma say this....I don't care where your SO is from, but I do find it gross when someone talks about a whole nation of women/men as if they are all the same. There's no 'the US woman is....' 'the *insert nationality here* man is.....' and anyone who buys into that is kinda promoting a gross and abnormal *hi Sarah!* lie.

Love the one you're with cos of the qualities he/she posesses...and there's no need in the same breath to put another nationality of women/men down because of it. 'oh American women are all ugly so...' yah, ok And your SO is special on his/her own merits, not 'the UK man is great with children' if YOUR partner is great, it's cos s/he's great...not cos where he/she was born that those traits are automatically assumed.

We've all seen it here, so don't act like it's never said. And I'd be pretty outraged too, to read 'the Russian woman KNOWS she is the weaker gender' In fact, Russia-American couples should be outraged at that statment, not the post. Actually, is there ONE of you here who would defend such a statement?
