Where is everyone? crying.gif
just_Jackie
In Illinois, on my couch drinking coffee.

Mr. Betta fish is not recovering from the tank move. I think today I will have to put him under crying.gif I hate when that happens. In his memory, I will rescue another betta from Walmart.

What's everyone doing today? I have to work 11-5pm. I'm sure we will watch more Sopranos when Mohammed gets home. My sons gf gave us season 1. We're hooked. She also had season 2. We are now up to Season 3 disc 3 and Blockbuster loves us. We have to rent all the rest!

I have to help a friend get his new house ready for move in. He's offered his home as our wedding venue, so I better not skip out on this job innocent.gif . I'll probably be stuck doing trim work for which i have no patience. BUT it is a lovely 100 year old house in downtown and will make a great place for a wedding party.

jackie- exactly what is the best way to mercy kill a fish?
amal
g'mornin...my plans for today...i will be deciding soon wether or not to take my son to urgent care coz he's had a fever for 2 days of 104...then, call h&r block to go in and file taxes !woot!...then try to get the HORRID smell of garlic outta my house!!! my lord it stinks in here...i still can't get used to the smell so that means it is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy strong.... i even had the windows open half the night to air the dang place out..... ohh lazy sundays

eta..i forgot to add that i'm also working on a top secret plan for us!!!! should be ready in a couple days!!!! i'm so excited!!!!
just_Jackie
We owe this year on taxes. bummer. My little tax deductions grew up and moved away and with both of us working, we're in a higher tax bracket. double bummer. So we won't file til April with a check for $343.

My daughter had to put a fish under once and called a pet store. They said 'Put it in a plastic bag and put it in the freezer.' I have always used the toliet water sendoff. I was just reading on a betta website that in a few weeks they can recover. So I'm confused what to do here.

Jackie rose.gif
ETA What in the world did you cook that you used alot of garlic? Traven might need something stronger. Hope your lil man feels better today.

d to da oodle here.

I'm at my second job. Does anyone know how to make everything smaller? All the icons on the desktop are HUGE as is the internet browser page. I don't like things to be big on my computer. I feel like it's for a 70 yr old who can't see or something.

Well shouldn't be on here but Jackie good luck with the fish. That was the BIGGEST beta I've ever seen!!! We had one at work here a few years ago and named it our boss's name. He was like 1/4 of the size but I do remember having to let the new water sit for like two days or something before we could put him in. I bet that is why he's kind of in shock. Hope he can recover!

Amal what is the secret??? I wanna know!!!

mbp - that sounds like such a beautiful place for a wedding!! what type of ceremony are you going to have? (i forget if your hubby to be is muslim or not)

have fun everyone.
amal
hehe i can't use my nick name in the public forum...lol ... its kinda bad hahaha
we made bamia .. it was super fantastic and was atop a lovely bed of basmati rice. mmmmmmmmmm.... i just can't stand the smell of garlic and we made a big pot of it so it used probably 4 or 5 pieces of garlic ... the initial frying of garlic and onion in olive oil is what permeated the house with this horrid smell..i have incense going all over the place to try to at least cover the smell for a bit...

hehehe i can't tell my secret but i really think you will like it smile.gif biggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

Hi everyone... my patient that I was so worried about FINALLY got moved to the Intensive Care Unit so no more trying to titrate pressors and worry about ventilator settings and going to the pharmacy to pick up medications etc etc... But my other patient died blink.gif He was really sick and refused all his treatment because he has some kind of mental illness, so I guess it's not that surprising... but I can't believe he died. What a week wacko.gif

Hope you all have a better Sunday than I'm having.

Looks like a missed some drama rama yesterday. Looked like fun.

I am so sorry for the post of your patient. I can not imagine the job you do and how you can separate the work from your personal life. BUT it such important work and I am glad to know there is someone like you who is compassionate and dedicated out there! rose.gif

I guess the freezer thing is humane...I've heard freezing to death for humans is not so bad....once you get past the period where you are so cold, your body just sorta of goes to sleep. But I do not know if I could put the fish inteh freezer and close the door knowing it was slowing going to die. Of course flushing down the toliet must be a brutal way to go too.

We are going to have a legal ceremony quick to get the AOS going, but the wedding will be more of a party. I hate the whole idea of vows. I've ask a couple of my freinds to take on officals roles in the wedding- I wnat one friend to make a blessing/speech kind of thing. I want a signing of the contract, a traditional american style wedding dress and cake, lots of food and drink, I have a preofessional henna designer doing my feet and hands, I am looking for some berber musicians for some kind of performance.

You should be able to right click on the desktop and go to properties and that brings up the Display Properties box. Go to the last tab, settings, and change the screen resolution to something like 1024 x 768.
If that's not what you're talking about, I dunno.

Sounds like you need to change your resolution. Right click on the desktop and choose properties. From the settings tab you can change the screen resolution. Slide it to the right. I don't know what setting will be good for you, but mine is at 1280x800. Hope that works!

I suppose, hope anyhow that your are asking for the best way to put a pet fish out of its misery. There are three methods that I think are probably the most humane and most likely the easiest for the owner to stomach. The first is an overdose of fish anesthetic. This is known at chemical supply stores as MS-222, tricaine methanesulfonate, Ethyl 3-aminobenzoate, or methanesulfonic acid salt. Mix 350 mg of this per liter of water in the container you plan to put the fish in to be euthanized and immerse the fish for roughly 10 minutes. This should end the suffering. Another method is to place the fish to be euthanised in a a shallow container of water and add alka seltzer to the water. Try and place the tablets as close to the gills as possible and the fish will drift away. The lasyt method is to make a 1:5 solution of grain alchohol to water and immerse the fish in it. The fish will essentially overdose on the alchohol and as with the other methods they will pass away peacefully.

I found this on a yahoo page-----------I can't do it crying.gif This fish better get better soon.

There should be a button on the monitor itself somewhere that when you push it, lets you adjust the screen settings.

I don't know if you're still having troubles, but if changing the resolution didn't make it look right, maybe just change the icon size alone. Control panel>>display>>appearance>>"advance" button>>"item" drop menu>>choose icon, change the number. smaller number = smaller icon. If its a work computer that someone else usually works on, be ready to hear them complain about the change, though. People get funny about their computer appearance.
Jackie- hope that fish is doing better. I wouldn't be able to knock him out either. (and maybe he even appreciates your patience)

The Jehovah's Witnesses are here. They were shocked when I offered them tea and brought out a fruit plate. Gave me a chance to introduce a little of the egyptian and muslim culture of welcoming guests. Now my husband is confusing them thoroughly laughing.gif He's already got himself invited to a revelations study group on Mondays.

Update on Mr. Betta fish: As of 5:54pm he is at least upright (not sideways) and seemed almost interested in food. Not out of the woods yet but I would say he went from critical to stable condition.

For those who aren't familiar with it, there's a webcam that's pointed at the pyramids all the time. Hard to see them at night of course, since it's dark out, but there's sometimes some very lovely shots when the weather is clear. It's also very evident at times how bad the air is there. sad.gif

Anyways, here's a link for anyone who's interested

Oh that's a nice area! I told Usama that I wouldn't mind living in that area if we end up in Cairo in about ten to fifteen years from now. I'd prefer Alexandria though I think since I think I'd miss living on the ocean too much. Whenever I'm inland I get all claustrophobic feeling. blush.gif The hotels in that area are pretty swanky too from what I recall. There is one right next to the pyramids that I was dying to go look at but we didn't have time.
cbd2cai
The Pyramids that everyone sees and are close into the city are at Giza (the ones the webcam is pointed at). There are also pyramids at Saqqara (Step Pyramid) and Dendara going on down to Memphis . . . I haven't been to Memphis yet. One of these days . . maybe on this next trip . . . I have to work up the powers of persuasian to get the hubster to go!

Yeah, we already decided that if we move back to Egypt insha'Allah it won't be in Cairo, but one of the outlying areas or even Alex or Hurghada.
He sent me some really short videos of when he was in Alex a couple of weeks ago. I hope he can take some more next time he goes so I can see more of the area.
