Hey all,

I partly just wanted to say hello to this regional group since I'm still pretty new to VJ generally.

I reached the London Embassy's website today after clicking around a bit (not that I didn't know it was there all along): http://www.usembassy.org.uk/cons_new/visa/...processing.html

I noticed the site says that I-864 support affidavits are NOT required:

"An applicant for a fiancé(e) visa is not required to file an affidavit of support, form I-864 at the time he or she applies for a fiancé(e) visa. However, the Immigration and Nationality Act does require the applicant to establish to the satisfaction of the consular officer at the time of the application for a visa, and also to the satisfaction of an officer of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration at the time of application for admission to the United States, that he or she is not likely at any time to become a public charge."

Don't we need to provide some kind of proof of financial support during the process? Nothing indicating that such a doc is included in packet 3 seems listed on that page?

Also - did people here have luck getting packet 3 before getting an NOA2 just to have stuff set to go with as quick a turn-around as possible? Some comments I've read implies people don't employ that tactic, which seems a smart one if it really works that way.

I'm way ahead of myself, I know. But I have to do something to stay busy for the next 90 days or so, right?

Hey! Welcome. For K1 interview at London, you need a I-134 affadavit of support, not I-864.

London won't send out P3 before they get your case from NVC, which gets your case from USCIS after NOA2. You can definitely work on preparing all the documents ahead of time, though, so you can have P3 forms and checklist ready to return as soon as you get it in the mail from embassy.

You're going to need an I-134 to prove financial support.

As far as your statement regarding doing packet 3 before getting your NOA2 I'm afraid you lost me a bit. Admittedly I'm sleep deprived. Do you mean complete and send packet 3 to the embassy? No, that isn't possible. Well it's possible, it's just not sensible. If you mean gathering paperwork, yes, you can do that, though some of it needs to be dated after the NOA2.

I'm not much help in the keeping busy respect. I post quite a few pointless comments here on VJ and chase short people.

Yup, you can apply for the police cert, get your Affidavit of Support ready etc etc. Doesn't really speed up the process but means you can be prepared and ready.

Great - thanks for the info. About the packet 3, I had read either here or on other sites that once you had the NOA2 or even before, if you called the embassy and explained that they'd be getting your info soon, they would send out the packet 3 forms because, well, they're just forms anyway.

Is there a copy of the checklist somewhere here on VJ? (I've checked the forms section, but either missed it or didn't know what I was looking for). Anything so we can just know EXACTLY how to answer everything and have everything together . . . . I'll let the government waste time, I'll try to save ours.

heishe is correct about the I 134. The USC fiance/e fills it out, has it notorized, sends it (along w/ supporting docs, etc) to the UKC fiance/e who then takes it to the interview with them.

Its not physically possible to get P3 before NOA2. London sends P3 so they have to have your case, get you in the system, etc. before they can mail it to you.

You CAN prepare in advance for some of what you'll need in P3 - including the police certificate. I would recommend sending off for that as soon as you get NOA2 - at least that's what I plan to do anyway. It normally takes all of 40 days to get it. Its also a good idea to have the UKC fiance/e go to their doctor (GP) and get whatever vaccinations which may be necessary for the medical (or the documentation that they've already had the jabs) - cheaper doing it this way than having the visa medical folks do it. good.gif

Thanks.

I think part of what made me wonder was that "request for provisional file" form under the forms header. At this point, of course, it's entirely possible I was making it all up in my head.

Also - is there a place to download the 134? And it is NOT 134A, right? Which seems to be the form here. Since it's an "I" doc - I-134 - I thought that meant it was a USCIS doc not a state department document.

I was that kid in school who just HAD to read ahead. And I'm TERRIFIED of using old docs or getting bum info. As we all are, I'm sure.

Click downloads up at the top there, then click K-1 forms...then well, the I-134 form.

No worries, I'm not giving out any info about my bum.

I tried to edit this into my last post but i effed it up.

regardind the I-134. if you go to the uscis homepage and type in I-134 in the search box, you get a I-134 download and instruction page. but if you try to back up out of that page into the general forms section, it doesn't work. likewise, if you go from the homepage to the forms page, I-134 isn't there. The VJ downloadable example is just the form without an instruction page, which government forms generally seem to come with. and while i trust this site for real, practical information, i would be less comfortable basing my preparations off forms that don't come straight for the government souce.

reasons for this? i'm sure there are complete forms and instructions in packet 3 - but i should never be "sure" of anything in this process i suppose.

update: wait, if you got to "downloads" and through that K1 link, you get bounced to a government site. if you go to "example forms" you get just that. i can see how that might confuse people.
