Man we're too poor to fly BA.
MichelleandCraig
We just looked up tickets the other day, and BA was the cheapest nonstop economy class! I agree though, they are often showing as more expensive than United or American...in my experience anyway. M.

Yeah, I sometimes find that BA are more expensive, but they're one of the few non-stop flights from Detroit to London that we could take. I just booked a flight back for myself, my wife and my daughter to see my family in March(it'll our first trip back to the UK since last July), before I knew about the strike. Luckily this won't affect us. smile.gif

Unfortunately, in the case of going for the "cheaper" AA or UAL--then you will get what you paid for!

Yes. smile.gif

I hate BA....love Virgin!

Cheapest ticket I found when I went to see my London boy was on Delta. It was so ghetto. sad.gif

But really I just need a place to sit while I ride across the ocean. As long as it stays warm and pressurized, I'll be more or less satisfied.

Man, I took Singapore Air from San Francisco to Korea, THAT was luxurious. There was a Nintendo in every seat!!

On that, you take a chance--you may get a cancellation without notice.

I have never had a positive experience with any US-based airline off of North American shores (one neutral, three somewhat negative, one flight-through-hell).

And that even includes US-based airline's craft used in codeshare!

I've never had cancellation problems or anything (except United gave me some hell in San Fran once, but that was a domestic flight), but some trans-Atlantic carriers have definitely been more COMFORTABLE than others. The worst ever I think was KLM from Detroit to Amsterdam, where the inflight movie was a Dutch dubbed Whoopie Goldberg thing. Shudder. Delta was pretty uncomfortable and I was sitting next to an obnoxious drunk guy, but I did get to England on time.

News to me!!!! I bought my tickets for Maria through Expedia.com and the itinerary was as follows:

All flights for Tuesday JAN 30th , 2007

Ekaterinburg= British Airlines to London 1st class
London to Chicago=British Airlines 1st Class
Chicago to Minneapolis= United Airlines= 1st class

I hate to break some bad news to you but British Airways do not fly from Ekaterinburg to London the flight is operated by B Med and their fleet comprises of Airbus aircraft that are not configured with a first class cabin and it gets worse BA do not code share with UA they are in different alliances - I would seriously write a letter of complaint to Expedia for selling you tickets that do not exist letting them know you have an army of congressmen backing you up good.gif

You have not read the thread or where the poster stated I was lying about my own purchase of air tickets from Ekaterinburg Russia to Minneapolis for my Fiance. Ignorance comes from not knowing, which would make you worse than a retard. You are incapable of learning. I guess that makes you a posted retard.
Pigu
It's true Brad, she is incapable of learning! I have a fetish for posted retards and that is why I am marrying her. Try to ignore her crazy outbursts! rolleyes.gif

My God, do these people have outbursts like this irl? Methinks not.

BA tran-atlantic is poor. Fly Virgin.

I have found that from the UK to USA BA iis cheaper but going the other way AA and Delta etc are cheaaper. Not sure why!
heishe
Pigu's booked on Air India, lol. I hope he survives.

Yeah I tried to get Air India or Air Kuwait but they were booked solid for 9 months from UK to New York. Cheaper by some distance.
My wife flew Air India to England last year to see me while K1 was pending. Her parents were not happy, they just thought it was going to be hijacked or crash or something, when infact the planes that get targeted for terrorism tend to be American carriers such as AA.

When I used it in 1999, it was actually fairly good; has it degraded since then?

Because Air India was once targetted (in 1985, the Kanishka/AI-182 incident--another in Japan was also supposed to blow up on ground, but the timing was incorrect); however, India has increased security at airports since then, both domestic and international.

However, Air India's quality is of some concern to desi travellers (of course, if you require a "Jain" meal, you're SOL as no other carrier offers this).

I've heard Virgin is exellent before, but it's way more expensive too isn't it?? We always have to think of cost first, unfortunately. sad.gif Craig likes BA alright..I enjoyed my United flights, but I'm sure some others have had really poor experiences with them... M.

Virgin is a great carrier but unfortunately has a very limited route network to the US and is not a member of any of the big 3 alliances, BA is still the best TA carrier but can indeed be expensive unless you book during one of their sale periods. The strike is sort of back to an on/off stage with further talks today. If the strike does go ahead watch their website after the strike. If history repeats itself they will have some serious discounting going on to try and lure business back.

You can book Virgin TA thru Continental...it's their 'sister' airline. My first flight to the UK was booked on Continental.com and the plane was Virgin.

And it wasn't that much more expensive than BA at the time.
Thingee
I have absolutely NO loyalty as to flights. I go with whoever is cheapest. Just so happens BA was cheapest for both my visits by a long shot. (I fly out of Dulles) SO got good deals from Virgin for his visits.

ETA: He flew in and out of Reagan and Dulles.

Completely agree. I was refering to the future when I can afford to fly on the better airlines. good.gif

Although when i flew out to NY last year I flew virgin because it was cheaper that day. You get a better entertainment system. Choice of upto 40 movies which you can watch whenever you like, pause rewind etc. BA flights i have been on (this is a lot of BA flights) have not had this. You watch a movie when it begins, if you miss the beginning.....tough sh*t!
Thingee
That would almost be worth the extra 50-100 bucks! I tend to doze on trans_Atlantic flights, and it's slightly annoying to wake up 45 minutes into the final showing of the one movie you wanted to see. (I dope myself up with Dramamine as I tend to be a white knuckle passenger, that and 3/4 one of those bottles of wine and I'm out.)
Happy Bunny
i just tell the trolly dollies to keep the G&Ts flowin and they haven't denied me yet, lol

Hurray for Dramamine!

I'm a puker. sad.gif

I usually end up going with whatever's cheapest (American or Delta, most of the time), then kicking myself when I remember that if I'd flown BA or Virgin (or anything non-American, basically), I could have more than made back that extra money in free in-flight drinks. laughing.gif
