My wife applied for her ssn a couple days ago but her current job is really buggin her about getting this ssn. Is there any other kind of tax id number or something we can get before ths ssn comes? Supposedly the employers needs the SSN for tax purposes. Can we get like a taxpayers id number or something? Any help would be appreciated.
I take it your wife has an EAD? you can go back to the SSA and ask then to confirm her number for her employer... they should be able to give you a printout that you can show to her employer...

My wife does have an EAD. You think they will have her number 2 days after we applied? Do they send the application to another office or something?
