no notary required on the I-864

Hi,

Speaking from my own experience, I do think that a notary is required. When we completed the I-864 we had the notary do the stamp at the very bottom of the document in an area of white space.

I would strongly recommend that you contact the appropriate people before sending your forms in, just to verify. It could save any unnecessary delays. Maybe things have changed since my I-864 but there's no harm in confirming before you send your forms.

If you're sending your forms in to the National Visa Center, I think that it's best to email them. They usually responded to us in 3 or so days.

Best of Luck,

The I 864 no longer needs to be notarized.

I think by reading the instructions provided with the form , you can confirm that no notary is required.

As I understood it, no notary is required if it's you completing the forms based on your income. In our case we needed a joint sponsor so we had that notarized.

Everyone's free to their opinion. My main recommendation was that if you have questions on this sort of thing, ask the people who should certainly know (the NVC).

good job it doesn't need to be - in the US every tom dick and Harriet is a notary..

Here in the UK, in Leeds for instance (population circa 750,000 in the outer city and the 2nd financial centre of the UK the 4th largest economy in the world), there are 2 notaries - they are high powered people, hard to get hold of and expensive...

my sponsor (USC wife) is in the UK although I will be providing capital of my own as the security - so if it was necessary it would be a top nasty !

good job it isn't

Hi,

I honestly think you should call the NVC and ask, as every case is a bit different. My husband didn't have to have his I-864 notarized. But as you can see above other people needed it to be notarized.

This is a recent change... sponsor....co-sponsor....it doesn't matter.

The form does not need to be notarized.

You don't need to notarize the I-864 anymore.
