Maybe this is a stupid question, but if a K1 beneficiary is traveling to LAX and the flight connects in Guam then is Guam the POE? It is a US territory is'nt it? If so I'd be concerned if they have experience with K2 VISAs there.

I was wondering this myself. I tried to check but wasn't sure. My fiancee's brother who she hasn't seen in many years lives in Guam, and I thought it might be worthwhile stopping over to visit when we fly to LAX. I wouldn't doubt that upon arrival at LAX, she would have to go through customs for an international flight whether Guam was a POE or no.

Guam is a Deferred Inspection Site. They may check papers there, but you probably will go through Customs and Immigrations at the next international airport like Hawaii or California.

As of two years ago Guam is a POE. My wife went thru immigration there six years ago, and her mother almost two years ago. Both of them had positive experiences there. I was with my wife when she went thru, and her immigration stuff was done by an older Filipino gentleman who was very nice and polite.

I assume your using Continental which stops in Hawaii, anyway, customs will be done in Hawaii.

The Guam Airport is considered part of the Honolulu International Airport POE... So your visa would be activiated there in Guam with a Honolulu stamp... A POE can consist of more than one inspection point... For instance, the Detroit Tunnel and Detroit Bridge are both part of the same POE... The Detroit Metro Airport, Oakland County Airport, Lansing Airport, etc, are part of the DTW (Detroit Metro Airport) POE...

The Guam Inspection Point itself is probably run by a Chief or Deputy Port Director depending on how big it is... they report to the port director in Honolulu...

Yes, Guam is a POE,....i activated my visa there, The Guam POE is generally a very nice bunch,...but very strict because of all the illegal drugs and waht-not that comes through Guam.

The same thing with the above poster aswell, i had my visa activated by a philippino guy, out in 5 minutes i was!

Yes it's Continental Airlines, Manila->Guam->Honolulu->LAX.

The other flight I'm looking at is NWA Manila->Nagoya->Narita->LAX, but I'm wondering how the heck that would work, as the Nagoya->Narita flight segment is a domestic Japanese flight!

You might consider Northwest MNL-NRT-LAX or Cathay Pacific to MNL_HKG-LAX. Or better yet, Philippine Airlines has nonstop flights from MNL to LAX. Why not make it as easy as possible on your fiancee?

Unless I missed something here, it sounds like the Guam-Honolulu POE is very easy and fast for my fiancee, and since I'm going to be with her it's easy and fast for me too.

I've been on 12-hour non-stop flights, they suck. I'd much rather be on two shorter flights of 5 to 7 hours. I'm taking the PAL flight myself from LAX->GUM->MNL to go over there this time and there's NO WAY I would put my fiance thorugh that! It's 16 hours on the same freakin plane! The Guam stop is just for fuel and you don't even get off the plane.

You think I didn't check the other airlines already? Right now on the dates we need to travel, NWA MNL-NRT-LAX is like $1200 and Cathay Pacific is like $1500 and PAL is 12 hours nonstop and is like $800 (and we would have to stay overnight in LA before our next flight, yikes!).

The fact that you're going to be with her makes a big difference... You didn't mention that in your original post. The way you phrased it made it sound like she was coming on her own, which was why I recommended keeping the stopovers to a minimum. I wasn't commenting on whether or not I thought Guam was fast and easy as a POE, but rather the flight routing.

I'd be curious how going via Guam and Honolulu to LA ends up working out for you. My wife and I might consider that route if my parents ever decide they want to go with us to the Philippines to meet my wife's family. We'd probably spend a night or two at each stopover to break up the flights for them a bit.
