We are just about to file our joint taxes for the year 2006 and im a little confused.

I left my job in the UK in Feb of 2006, moved to the US on K1, got married, filed AOS, got green card and started working in August of 06. I have my W2 for the four months that i worked in 06 but what im unsure about is my earnings from the UK.

Do i have to include any money i made in 2006 from my UK job with my US taxes or do i just file my W2 jointly with my wife and forget about any monay from back home ? I dont want to go and file my taxes then get asked about my UK earnings and cant find any information that points me in the right direction so any help/advice is appreciated.

Thanks,

Tom

Tom I am also unsure as to what to do, ring the IRS and ask them, http://www.irs.gov/ this site will answer most of your questions and also has a contact number.

Look here for some background information to see if it applies.

Haven't actually done it yet so I am uncertain of the details but if you choose to be treated as a resident alien for the entire year and file your tax return married filing joint then you are agreeing to be taxed on your world-wide income. However, you have already paid taxes to the UK on your UK wages so there should be a foreign tax credit or something.

I think we will have H&R Block do our taxes. This is all to confusing for me and if they screw it up they can pickup the bill but i will post back what they tell me and what the outcome is.
