I'm about to purchase a ticket for my husband....He needs to get from Recife to Rio (one way) and the Rio to Vegas (one way, same flight as me) and my travel agent is quoting me $1600 for him, for both flights, including taxes. Is this a good price for one way tickets out of brazil to the US...and he's quoting me a round trip ticket from Las Vegas to Rio for $800....

see what a round trip would cost your husband, they are usually cheaper. i think our plane tickets ran about $3200 total.
andrea&roberto
well, our total price is $2400 for both.... we're really pressed for time. His interview is in 3 weeks, and i'm leaving in 2 weeks....he would need a round trip from Brazil to US...which are expensive too....i'll look into it. but i may just say, "to hell with it!" and buy it! Just as long as i know it gets him here, and we're together on the plane...that's all i really care about. thanks.

Also have your husband check with an agent locally to see what they have. Sometimes you might be surprised

Hi Andrea,

Flights out of Brazil are really expensive these days...and since Carnaval is just around the corner there I think this price is not so off. Roundtrip tickets are usually cheaper than one-way...go figure!

Why don't you try some of these ticket search engines, like kayak.com or priceline.com? Maybe you can compare with what your travel agent found you!
andrea&roberto
The problem I've been running into is that these search engines are ONLY for flights departing from the US.... but i'll keep checking

you're running into the problem i had. the easiest solution for me was to have nessa make the reservations and send her the money to pay for it.

Need to find tickets too soon. I need to buy 4 rt tickets to SSA so am looking for best price. And the prices seem close to doubling from a yr ago. What is irritating to me is my friend and his wife bought tickets to Germany for $440.00 each. ohmy.gif

I've found tickets to South America to always be more expensive than to Europe.
In addition, February means Carnaval in Brasil and everything is more expensive - flights, hotels, etc. I spoke with my travel agent in December and she was looking at flights leaving Rio for Miami the last week of February - and at least one airline was completely booked.
As much as I want my fiance here as of yesterday, knowing our interview will not be until March is a bit less of a headache and a strain on our pockets.
Good luck.

Charles went to Brazil last year the weekend after the carnival and it was way cheaper. It doesn't get cheaper than that.

Yea Nessa - I'm glad to hear that!
I think that will be when I go to Rio. I'm still waiting for Eliton's interview date but if they set it for the 1st or 2nd week of March then I hope the prices are much lower. Also, I'm flying directly to Miami - Rio and that should make it even better (I hope).
I always went to Manaus that is more expensive.
Nessa
Yeah if you think about it, going to Brazil during the Carnival I think it must increase at least 25% the price, after all foreign people love brazilian carnival (Brazil has th best Carnival in the entire world, btw), anyway, we did that last year, we researched if it would be a bit cheaper, because it works like this, the carnival isn't a day, it kinda starts on a friday, then saturday then sunday then monday then tuesday (the carnival is really on a tuesday) and then wednesday. After that it dies. So my advice is, if it's possible, come to Brazil the thursday after the carnival season, or the monday after.

Carnaval is in some ways a month long celebration, right? laughing.gif
I remember when I was living in Brazil we didn't even start the new semester at school until later because of Carnaval. We had days off - and not just a few. There must be even more parties in Rio. I've been researching hotels in Rio and most have higher prices for the entire month of Februrary. I'm glad we're going in March.
I want all of the extra chaos and tourists to go home before I arrive yes.gif

Hey, I went to Brazil in Feb about 1 1/2-2 weeks before Carnval, and stayed DURING carnaval, and left the last day in Feb...and last year, my ticket was only $660 (ish...i cna't remember for sure) And I also bought the Tam Brazil Pass which helped a lot too.....

But I also did notice that this year, the prices are more expensive than last, and I'm flying out around the same time...(but not for carnaval) I hate to say it...becuase I've been wishing for this day to come as soon as possible, but I almost wish my husband's interview was closer to carnaval, or during, so I could spend Carnaval in Rio..but that's what next year is for....oh well. I happy to bring him home on the 12th....safe and sound.

By the way, I researched literally EVERY airfare website worth researching, comparing prices INCLUDING taxes, both round trips and one ways, for tickets for Me (travel from Las Vegas to Rio) and for my husband (Recife to Rio, and Rio to Las Vegas) and my travel agent STILL beat the internet....you should check it out. It's worth it to get a quote at least.

His name is Joao Augusto (Call him by either name) Tell him Andrea recommended you... I don't get anything for the recommendation.. I just think he gives great prices. This is the second time I'm using him. Plus, I always give him hell, and whine a lot about my itenerarys, so I feel I owe him a recommendation.

Good luck everyone!

The last 2 times I've flown to Brasil (Manaus) my travel agent has gotten me really good deals! She is baiana and works for Brazil Paradise in Miami. I need some flexibility with our flights just in case we have to stay an extra day or 2 in Rio - so that's another reason travel agents are a plus.
