Just curious if those of you still apart have already comingled accounts. I haven't and dont' think I will until he gets here but was curious what everyone else does.

Well when he was back home, he had an ATM card to my account, which saved on Western Union and Money Grams.
Since he's been he cannot be added until he gets a SSN#.

I figured he's goin to want his own anyway. So we'll prolly have a seperate account, as well as one joint account. We may have to show the Co-mingling of funds for AOS and Lifting Conditions.
Jenn!
I voted "yes", but he is not on *all* of my accounts. We have a mixture of joint and separate accounts.
A.J.
All our bank accounts are joint but we have our own credit cards.

Just for the record....I'm looking for those couples who are apart. Not those who are living together already. Hope that makes sense and sorry if it wasn't clear. blush.gif

Haven't yet, but will shortly.

No joint account until she moved here. We did not think of any need to do that at the time and we thought it was too much hassle.

She was not added until she moved here for good in July (she came on CR-1 on Feb but returned home to finish up/quit her job).
CarolineM
I couldn't add him until he had his SS#...so no. I didn't add him until he got here.
*Marilyn*
he didn't add me to his account until I got here but I did have access to his account....
jordanianprincess
I have not added him to anything except my Costco membership because I thought he would be here by now and the only way to get the additional card for free was when I signed up. However I would not add him to any financial account until we are married. He wouldn't even accept to be added until he can contribute to the accounts financially anyway.

In any regard, I don't see how you can add them to the accounts without a social security #. I also think its a bad idea becuase it could appear as if they have been in the country when they have not.

I'm the non-USC (and I'm not there yet) but... it'll be just what Jenn said, above!

doodlebug,

Not all, but some. I added Rodjanaa to my primary bank accounts (the ones I use on a regular basis) before she came to the USA. And since she came to the USA everything has been co-mingled except that we each have a savings account of our own in addition to a joint account. And the mortgage is in my name only because we got a much better interest rate (builder's promo) at the time, before she had become a LPR.

She has more credit cards than I do. She enjoys the promotions that the clothing store accounts offer.

I have given Luz my ATM card to my (only) checking account. It's easier and cheaper for me to give her the monthly budget that way. She has full access to everything.
babybunny
not really.
Javed is on my benifits. nothing else til he gets here.
coz you cant add anyone to checking.

Although my wife and I have been married for nearly 3 years.....we are still apart due to her having to fulfull the 2 year HRR for her j-1 visa (but thank god she's almost done! whistling.gif ) That also means she has a SS# already, as well.

So, we are still apart...but married for quite a while now.

We do have both our names on all of our bank accounts...except one...which is my checking, but since I don't really keep much in that account, I just made her the beneficiary on it. She is also the beneficiary on my brokerage account.....and sole beneficiary on my pension. (Still have a while to go until retirement though wink.gif

So, yes......in one way or the other......all of our accounts are joined/and/or she's the beneficiary.

The only thing I have not added her to, yet , are my credit cards. For the sole fact that we both agree when she comes here that she gets her own....to build up her credit.

We are planning on having a combination of joint and separate bank accounts. Probably not adding him to my current credit card, but getting one together and having him get his own to build credit here.

shonjaved,

I could. And I did.

Never added him while he was in the UK, we weren't even engaged yet! laughing.gif

We currently have a joint checking account, joint savings account, and each have a personal checking account that the other doesn't have access to. We set aside a certain amount of money for each of us each mont that's ours to do anything we want with, no questions asked. We use it to buy stuff we really want that the other person doesn't (like books, CDs, DVDs, he buys whisky [Scotch] with his, etc.) and presents for each other.
