Does any here Muslims and non-Muslims think if someone said salaami (like the pork meat) to your greetings of salaams... would this offend you?
Sorry I am bored and wondering... cos someone brought this up and I was like wacko.gif I laughed but then thought O snaps... maybe I should not laughed. But still I am laughing.
Sorry if anyone thinks this post is too stupid....
sarah and hicham
I would laugh but I would also be selective in who I would say that to. The only person I say salam to is Hicham and it's usually joking. I don't think he knows what salami is. Too bad for him!

I don't think this is offensive at all, its this kind of sensitivity that is creating so much tension in the word. I don't think it should be offensive to Muslims or Non-Muslims. Salam is an arabic word and Salami just sounds like Salam, I can't tell you how many times I have americanized Spanish words. Its harmless, don't think to much about this stuff. rose.gif

I got the impression that someone was making a joke and saying salami as in the meat stick on purpose but I could be wrong. If it's just mispronunciation then don't worry about it- maybe they're just adding an italian twist to saying "salam".

Well I say to this a few friends of mine, which all take no offense... but few days ago a Muslime, not apart of my circle overhearing this nearly ran me over with quoting of Suras and Hadiths, basically sentencing me to hell. I started to think, well maybe I was wrong, when she pointed this out to me. I orginally did not even think me saying Salaami referred to pork at all... but she made me little worried I did something wrong. Anywho in the end I donnot my intention was in the wrong place... and I still think it is funny... so whatever. C'est la vie. Maybe it's like, a Jew in England or France or America is going to say "shalom" occasionally but only to other Jews (very rarely, in religious settings, I guess). An Israeli, Jewish or not, is going to say shalom to everyone, because it's Hebrew. But when the language becomes part of the religious culture it morphs into a religious thing?

Or because salami isn't exactly the most healthy thing and maybe some people are not supposed to have those kinds of meats in their diet but they like the taste/texture/spices of salami.
